If they are slow starting the investigation they should refund pending the outcome.

Unless they have sufficient reason to believe that the outcome won't be a refund?

The FCA say that on a credit card the refund may not happen immediately but you cannot be charged interest or be asked to make a payment unless the bank can prove liability.

This happened to me some time ago, Smile refunded me immediately ie the same day that they spotted the transactions

The only thing that annoyed me was that the police wouldn't take any action on this as I wasn't the victim (they count the bank as the victim), the bank didn't seem that interested as it was it was probably less than £1000, some of which was also home shopping (asda if I recall correctly) and in my stupitidy thought it would be dead easy, call the police, they call asda get the address and pop round to find them eating the stuff but no one was overly interested, I got my money back, it was cheaper for bank to just pay me back than chase the fraud it would seem and the police kept a crime off their books, and the fraudster got away with it....everyone a winner!

If they don't have time to investigate the matter then how can they be certain that you are being truthful? Otherwise all they have is your word.

Irrelevant. They are supposed to refund first and investigate later. There is no execuse for the delay and I would be getting very heavy with them about now.

OP, speak to a supervisor and INSIST that they refund immediately or you will be taking this up with the FOS as a written formal complaint. It is your money and you are entitled to it, not to be unduly inconvenienced.
Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

At the moment it is the bank's money. Post 1 states the debt is on a credit card (I know they also talk about it being on their account which could be confusing) so now as amount is under dispute they should not have to pay it on next statement.
Any interest and/or charges would be refunded when the transactions are reversed.
