Faulty electricity meter

One thing to ask, has it had a rewire?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I am confused now!
So if the LOW reading is running all day does it mean that I might be OK as long as I am not on Economy7 Plan?
I haven't received the welcome pack yet and if it shows that I am not on Economy7 plan then I am fine. However when I opened the account the energy provider should have this detail on the system as they were supplying this property before as well.
I provided both LOW and NORMAL readings.0 -
Since you have an E7 meter (as recorded by the S/N) then you will be automatically placed on E7 billing, unless you request otherwise, and then only if your supplier accepts a dual rate meter on a single rate tariff-which requires them to total the two registers.
If the day units used are not clocking up (which you can check yourself in 5 minutes), then you will only be billed for the night rate ones. However, you will eventually be charged for your day usage on an estimated basis once the suppliers realises that the meter is faulty. So unless you want a big catch-up bill later, report it as faulty now.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Hi
I have some more information. I looked at the bill that was generated when I registered for few days of usage. It was an estimated bill but the computer only estimated the LOW reading and kept the NORMAL reading same in the estimate.
I then called my energy provider and told them that only LOW reading runs all day and NORMAL is same since I moved in the property. The person looked at the system and said it is fine and I am charged at a single rate. However they are only charging me at the LOW night rate around 6p per unit which is good for me but not sure if this will come to haunt me later on.
Any suggestion based on this new information?
Many thanks for reading and posting a reply0 -
So all your usage is being recorded on the LOW reading. Their system may well be adding the NORMAL and LOW together to get total kWh, but as NORMAL is zero, it appears that your LOW reading is your total usage in kWh.
Doesn't make sense that they say you are being charged for all of that at the lower E7 rate though. It may be fine with the supplier that you are charged at a single rate, just not that one!
What tariff does your bill say you are on?
Keep notes of every conversation/email exchange with the supplier. Also do some screen dumps of whatever details and history you can see online. You are right to be concerned about it coming back to haunt you. Try emailing them to confirm your tariff details.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. They have to call the merger registers something - it would appear there is to timeclock so the second register is not active.
The description 'Low' means nothing - it could just as easily be L1 & L2, Off-Peak & Normal or Square & Round for all the difference it makes.
You are not on an E7 tariff, so only 1 set of figures is required. Put some sticky tape over the ones that don't move (so you never make am stake and quote it in error).
You're being billed correctly for the supply you are using.0 -
Hi Buzby
Pardon me I don't know about these technical details and I am not sure if understood your post. Can you please explain what I need to do
My tariff on the bill say Economy 7 and I had to provide both readings.
There was a gap when I signed the contract for my property and the date we moved in so the energy provider had to estimate the bill for that period. When the computer created the estimate it kept that NORMAL reading identical to the one estate agent took on the first day. But it did estimate for LOW reading. that made me think that they are already aware of this.
Keeping this in mind I called them and informed the agent that only LOW reading is running all day. He said he will look into the system and said that it is find and I am charged at one rate.
The issue is that they are only charging me at the LOW rate which is around 6p as oppose to around 16p for the NORMAL reading.0 -
Buzby: OP has a dual rate meter (albeit with only one working register) and their bill says they are on E7. So how do you deduce that they are on a single rate tariff at 6p a kWh?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
