I used patatoe, carrott, swede, couple of spoons of stuffing and gravy granuals. I made the dumplings from self raising flour and suet - very basic but it was very tasty!

    Cheers.Look forward to it.

    morning all
had to buy milk yesterday but it cost me a bag of chips - i asked DS2 to pick me some up on his way back from his friends and shops near the chippy so i gave him a couple of quid extra so him and his mate could share chips.

im off to look for a recipie for brocolli and stiolton soup now - will try index first. got stilton in freezer from christmas and have some broc that wont last till the weekend.

also need to find a recipe for celeriac as for the last 2 weeks ive acquired one of those. im not nicking them DD3 has a veg box delivered here and just takes what she wants so i get left with the more unusual items.

    have a good day all

So my 4 week 'month' ends tomorrow and we've spent £239.67 of our £240 budget!

So the next 'month' runs 17th Jan - 14th Feb and we have a budget of £240 again :)

This is the first time in a long time I've struggled due to running low on groceries. We've run out of oil and can't make bread (using freezer stores) and this means trying to avoid eating what bread we have (so making pasta salad for lunch etc). And we're running out of spread too! So I used stork for pastry as a fat to make toad in the hole yesterday. We're low on cheese and eggs too... I have a friend over tomorrow and have nothing for lunch!!!

It's fun thinking of how to get around these things instead of buying them and going over budget :)

As long as I can think of something for tomorrow :/
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Popped past Lidl this morning for a croissant for the teeny for after pre-school, and also a chocolate doughnut as a big treat for him later. Picked up some toilet roll, bleach, muesli (their very berry stuff is delicious with greek yoghurt and a teaspoon of honey for breakfast) and teacakes for my eldest DD who is a real pain with breakfast choices (omlettes, teacakes, and yoghurt with muesli are fine but she detests toast and cereal :/). Also called by Home Bargains for some handwash for around the house.
Total spend in both - £9.45
Also Boots for 4 x packets of wetwipes at £3.50 (which comes under my grocery budget)

Tea tonight is cottage pie, made with .5lb mince, onion, baked beans, diced carrot, diced parsnip, frozen peas, lentils and topped with a sweet potato and normal potato mash. Fresh mango for pudding :)

  • Made HM pizza last night but it didn't turn out as I had hoped. Will have to find a different recipe for the pizza dough. Quite proud of myself though as DH insisted we have a meat pizza so rather than buy ingredients I cooked up a bit of mince and made sausage meatballs from two sausages and all from the freezer a mushroom and some cheddar cheese from the fridge to finish off the toppings. so NSD day for me yesterday.
I may have to crack and buy some basics soon as we have no milk or cheese and the potatoes & butter are running dangerously low too, plus we have BIL visiting next week so an extra mouth to feed. I'm hoping the stocks will last until payday which is 31st. Fingers crossed. Hoping for another NSD today too.

I made a £40 mortgage overpayment this morning thanks to the money I saved last month - thank you all for your help/support/recipes :D

I'm making a pasta bake thing with turkey mince tonight - hopefully it'll taste ok. Mr Mooo doesn't look too convinced with the idea ;)
  • Morning everyone. Just had to go to the shops today as no bread!!!!
Spent *8.38 in local butcher, £2.98 Home BAgs, 62p for a bramley apple for a pork dish I do and £9.64 in Mr Al*i. Wll update sig in a moment. Then need only 2 main meals to last until end Jan as we are away next weekend. Still not sure I'll manage it but will be very near and my actual target is £200, that is £50 down on a "normal month".

Everyone is doing brilliantly. Keep up the good work!
