There were some terrific post-Christmas bargains in Aldi today and I did cave in for some 69p selection of dark chocolate, but the only other items were the 39p lettuce, spring onions, celery and cucumber. I went to the greengrocers' for four carrots as I really can't use a huge bag of them even though they are good value for 99p. Also saw some salmon paste - 3 pack for 89p and I haven't had that for years and thought it would be useful to fill a sandwich in a hurry, rather than the usual Marmite. Finally a 20p pack of mushroom sauce from a discount store (rather like Approved Foods) and they had a good selection of this kind of thing so will look in again when I am passing. Doing my best to stick to the budget but oh, I do like shopping!

nothing I'm needing so staying well clear of supermarkets

used up pack of mini sausages wrapped in bacon in a toad in the hole type thing
must admit my yorkshire pudd is Always blooomin heavy ,
i like to think im not a bad cook but this beats me every time and ive used every recipe known to man

    JD x

I used to have the same problem so stopped cooking Toad in the Hole in a big family sized dish and changed to making individual ones....I presume you heat your oil first (it needs to be almost smoking hot). I also found a really good recipe which includes 4 eggs but also think that my very old gas cooker wasn't helping and now I have a new fan oven my yorkies rise wonderfully.

thanks sharronej im not sure if i have used a 4 egg YPudd recipe before ..lost track of all my previous efforts but I see others recommend it so i will try it out in the week
I'm fortunate i have 3 hens who are continuing to lay throughout these darker months so always have plenty in

havent spent anything on groceries as not been out but when topping up my windscreen wash i thought i wold get round to checking oil levels ...go me ...its not something i have done before used to leave that to OH but now i'm on me todd i had better take the bull by the horns and hopefully avoid nasty garage bills

my oil was low but cant remember the last time it was looked at so after an extensive " google" to find what type i needed ( boy o boy its a minefield of options ) I then had to try and find the best price ..so i have ordered from asda to collect it in store on Monday as i will go past there to fill up then
£35 for the type i was needing for 4litres the local garage wanted £12.99 a litre bottle and halfords was £48 so i think ive got a good price

right back to groceries none bought but i had defrosted some bacon ( it was aldos value which i love but when i opened the packet the slices werent quite sliced through iyswim so i had launched it into the freezer for a quiche or something
so i have chopped it up with some onion garlic and sage and had it with spaghetti for my supper and made enough to take to work for my lunch as i am back on day shift so can start eating at proper regular times again

really pleased i havent caved in and gone shopping for randoms its usually the middle of the month i start feeling the urge to have a "look" just to see what I'm missing and buy a whole heap of unplanned for items but i am determined to stay out of supermarkets

love catching up on how everyone is doing and by reading all the posts i am keeping away from spendy sites a win win situation

    onwards we go

    JD xx

A small spend today on YS grapes 38p, YS bread 36p and 2 YS TTD mash 25p each, I also spent £1 on the milk I went for. A total of £2.24.

We need very little if anything except teabags the next few days. All our meals are taken care off from the freezer and stores.

I am hoping to be under budget :A

My lunch today was courtesy of a ms in a big shop's cafe, and very nice it was too, then I bought a RtC chocolate bar in Boots and it didn't cost me anything as I used up some Advantage card points.

Spent all of my nectr points today on a pretty big shop, which left me £15 still to pay and added to my total. Bought a load of cleaning stuff and stocked up on lean mince. Need to do a meal plan now, also bought stir fry, lamb mince for a shepherd's pie, YS Walkers lite crisps and conditioner on offer, bought a loaf of Basics white bread for 50p, which I find okay for toast.

Brand match said my shop was £6.81 cheaper than other shops. I suppose that's down to me going for the offers and using Basics as if I'd chosen other things I could have picked things that everyone knows are a lot cheaper elsewhere.
