thank you ever so much for that website cheerfulness4
its bookmarked as i make my own jams chutneys etc:T
do you just print them off on paper and cut them out sticking the paper on with milk or do you print onto actual sticky labels and use milk to wet the jar ?

    You're welcome Jammy :)

I just print them off on paper and pour a tiny bit of milk in an egg cup and use my fingertip to wipe all round the back of the label. I then place it on the jar and press gently with a clean tea towel.
Cheap and cheerful and sticks a treat! :D

No photo tonight - I have asked Mr F for new camera batteries - no joy so far.
I went to take photos tonight - camera did not want to know.
Told Mr F - the thread won't be happy with him.

    No photo!
I hope Mr F prioritises them tomorrow or there'll be groans all round. :D

How do you freeze your quiche, Florence? In the past mines come out a little wet after just bagging it. Do you wrap it in foil or something?

  • I'm down to £96.50 for the rest of the month. It only needs to cover fresh stuff as I've got plenty of flour/sugar/dried stuff/tins etc and the freezer is full of home-made ready meals BUT I am seriously struggling with fruit. We get through so much of it. I buy from local fruit and veg shop which is dirt cheap but still don't see how I'm going to make it last the month. There are 4 of us and if we each have an apple a day, that's 24 apples a week! Then there's packed lunches, not sure if this is actually working out cheaper than school dinners or not considering I don't want to feed them crap. My 7 year old eats a lot but is thin as a rake so he definitely needs it and my 15 month old is BLW so has lots (if small portions) of fresh fruit.

Is this actually doable? I am panicking a bit!

  • My daughter asked me tonight why the kitchen scraps were in a pan on the stove! I told her-that is going to be soup! I used cauliflower.leaves, chicory, water and skins from beetroot, carrots onions garlic jerk seasoning stock cubes and half a leftover jar of value curry sauce. It was an experiment with the beetroot but it was lovely-I ate 2 bowls of it! DS bought mincepies in Co-Op this morning-packs of 4 flaky ones(their bakery type) for 25p so desert was one of those with some brandy sauce I bought in a big tub for 10p last week! Soup cost 60p for approx 4 litres, My tea cost approx 25p total!!!

I took a trip to Morries tonight on a YS hunt and spent £9.69.

Pork mince, bread rolls, rye bread, cathedral city cheese, Ardenes Pate, a family blackcurrant pie and double cream were all YS. Picked up a couple of offers on braising steak and bacon, plus more milk.

Weekly shop will be tomorrow, but it'll include a big bag of dog food and I'll meal plan for next week before I go.

Wilkos have got Flash Liquid 1.3L on offer at £1.50 a bottle, so will be grabbing a stock of that, as currently on the last one.

An expensive week in prospect compared to normal, but after that, hopefully alot less.

  • I've done an online shop with Waitrose tonight to get a lot of their offers and the free bottle of champagne. Having it delivered on 21st Jan as I really do not need anything yet!
