Hello, I've just realised I'm recording this challenge in my sig but that I have not registered my amount. I would like to try for
    £300

for 2 adults please. I have started this challenge and gotten distracted so many times. Really determined to stay on it this month and have more time as I am working my notice in my job, so am not doing as much work as usual!

So far I have spent £75.52 on a big shop and a little shop for cold and flu relief stuff. Freezer has 8 meals in it at present and a big tub of soup for lunches.

So I'm hoping to only spend a small amount next week. I think the key for me is definately to keep organised in order to keep OH out of the shops, because he likes to treat us! So if I can say "no, we have such and such in the fridge/freezer, he is less likely to go out and spend more! Also a tip for people like us...both sets of mum and dad's love to see us, so we make sure we are invited round to dinner to both houses regularly!

    23 days til pay day!!
    Save 12k in 2014 (my target: £10 000):
    My savings: £4878.54/£7000
    Joint account savings: £2685.57/£3000
    Total:£7564.11/£10 000 (as at 26/10/14)

    Hi there,

I'm really up for the shopping challenge this year as I am really stuck in a rut with both my meal planning and shopping habits. I have had a family of 4 to feed for years but now things are changing! My son has recently moved out ( how did one person eat so much?!) and my daughter has a job and a very hectic social life. I'm cooking too much just for me and my other half and that probably means I'm buying too much as well.
I would really like to know what is a realistic budget to set each week for 2 and a fleeting picky eater who flys in grabs something and flys out!
And is it really cheaper to shop at lidl/butchers/locally than to do an online shop with a list?
Looking forward to hearing how you all manage, even though my son ate us out of house and home he did contribute so the food budget has taken a knock and I seem to be spending the same amount!

It takes time to adjust when one flies the nest, no one canr eally tell you a realistic budget as everyone is different but I would suggest that if you are still buying and spending the same as when your Son was at home, then deduct what he was paying you from the budget, put your budget in cash in a separate purse then you cannot spend what is not in there, if that makes sense.

Plan only to feed yourself and OH but have something in the fridge or freezer for the picky eater flying in.

Good Luck as I said its not easy to adjust and will take time.

    Hi everyone,

Budgets list updated to here :)

    Hello and welcome/welcome back to:
    nicknack, Verityemilia and moneytree1 :D

sausageandonion - let me know if you want to set a budget ;)

Glad you had a nice time in Rome Meg72. It's on my list to visit.....one day.......

NSD (finally) for me :j All children now back to school so just me for lunch - I had fresh country veg soup (Ts) with a wholemeal tuna/mayo roll. Such comfort food given this rubbish weather.

Dinner tonight is (frozen) battered fish fillets (£1.50 for 2 in Ts), hm chips, peas and sweetcorn.

Forgot to say that if you can still stomach a mince pie(!) Ts had their value ones at 17p for 6 yesterday or ISB puff pastry ones at 4 for 25p.

Hope everyone is safe and well.

  • I'm still here, but I've been really under the weather with a cold fluey type thing so have hardly been out of the house much less as far as the shops yet this month.

We're still eating out of the store cupboards, but I did have to get eggs and milk the other day.

I think we can probably manage at least another week before I have to do a biggish shop so it's all going well here .........so far:D

A nsd today, I will need to do a shop tomorrow though as I am out of a few basics and want to stock up on mozzarella while they are on offer.

Does anybody know if there are any Aldi vouchers coming up please?
