Did my weekly food shop at WR today by way of a change, and spent £114.21

Grabbed a couple of their Christmas Glitter Puddings which have now been marked down to £3.00 each, might seem a lot but they also include a china pudding basin as opposed to a plastic one, dated until April 2014. And their Cider & Sherry Christmas Puds were reduced to £1.62 each and dated until April 2015 - am a sucker for xmas pud!

Stocked up on eggs, butter and flour as I intend to make some cakes for hubby and son to take to work and school in their lunch boxes, instead of buying the usual cake bars - just have to make up their minds which flavours they would like.

  • A productive day in the kitchen today

I have made 2 cumberland pies, a huge pot of ham and veg soup all whilst theres a big batch of chilli simmering away in my Crockpot.

Now all got to do is make some lamb mince and a batch of potato cakes possibly some homemade gnocchi then I will be done..a NSD also as I am using up veg and meats from the fridge and preparing freezer meals for this month.

Will be having some of the Chilli tonight with rice and some grated cheese.

  • Usually shop in asd@ but had some vouchers for T'co. Wrote a list but they had no chickens (only v expensive huge ones) & a few other items I knew were cheaper in a, so I'll take dd on a walk down there tomorrow or Sunday to get the few missing bits.

Did get a half price gammon, great for slow cooker but also big enough to take a slice off to use as a steak (will go with another steak I already have in the freezer to make a meal for Dh & I).

Should now have enough washing liquid (clothes) & loo roll for 2 months as both bought on offer.

Total for today & yesterday(pack of reduced potato cakes for the freezer) - £31.64

Spends for this week so far - £27.26 in Aldi and £14.99 for an Abel & Cole veg box (forgot to cancel this, ho hum!)

I'm going to do a stock check to see what I've got in the cupboards and freezer etc and see what I can make out of things I've already got in as much as possible this month.

Welcome Katkin - and I agree - even with cheapish things like bacon and corned beef hash we would be better eating veggie more often. My DH is also a meat and veg kinda guy so probably not going to make much of a difference in our household. perhaps I'll try just one!!! Does anyone have any ideas please?

We eat veggie about 5 days a week. Some great starter meals are hm pizza or quiche. I don't miss the meat with these. I buy a piece or joint of meat which I use over the other two days - its the old school way of cooking, making that piece of meat last a week! Good luck! x
  • Evening all

Bought two big packs of bananas from a local greengrocers. They were 2 for £1. I was well chuffed. I'll need them for pack ups next week and I would have paid more than that in Mr T's. Also popped in to I***and for their £1 milk (so I don't have to get it anywhere else more expensive) and got DD2 a pack of 5 fudges for £1. So £3 in total shopping for today so far.

Am also feeling the positive vibes of Jan and LOVING it x x x
  • May also pop to Mr Ts later to check out their YSs. It's a couple of minutes walk from my house - although checking out that wind outside I might think again (don't think DD2 will venture out there)!!
