Need Sky satellite receiver to get BT Sport on Plusnet

Options
Our contract with Orange is ending and I am buying an iphone and signing up with Giffgaff. We need a new broadband supplier and my fella wants a package with access to BT Sport. Cheapest I've seen is PlusNet but we need a Sky satellite receiver and dish. I have seen receivers on ebay quite cheap, are they suitable? Also we have a Freesat satellite dish and an HD TV. Do we need another dish? Finding it all quite confusing. Any help appreciated

Any dish which receives Freesat will be capable of providing a Sky decoder with BT Sport, so you won't need a different dish. As you said, there are plenty of decoders available cheap on the internet-but do ensure you also get a current viewing card linked to the box.
  • Thanks for prompt reply. In the meanwhile I went onto the livechat on PlusNet and asked same questions. However they have said need to be with Sky and not enough to just have a receiver. We don't want the cost of Sky so looks like will have to use BT

You don't need to have a Sky subscription at all.

What you need is a Sky decoder with either an ex-subscription viewing card or a "Freesat-From-Sky" viewing card (available from Sky for about £25).

Look for a cheap Sky decoder on the internet for the best deal. Just plug in and play.
  • Why not take a broadband connection with Plusnet and wait for them to launch their Youview service which will carry BT Sport? it's currently being tested by staff and a fibre trial starts for customers soon.

Could be a good while waiting for that with regard BT Sport.

Surely the money saving option is for the OP to make use of the current hardware she already has (the satellite dish)?

Moneyineptitude is correct. You don't need an active Sky TV subscription to get BT Sport on a Sky satellite box. You only need an active 'Freesat from Sky' viewing card.

That card will need to be registered to the OP's address and means the OP will need to purchase a FreesatFromSky card at £25 as they do not have a cancelled Sky subscription account.

Don't all three posts quoted say exactly the same thing? Why just repeat information if you come late to the party? :)

No they do not and can be taken to read that you can purchase a second hand box complete with an active second hand card - even you own post is not clear

Your post was just as unclear, but whatever rocks your boat.
