Disappointing/weird/inappropriate christmas gifts

A group of us at work recently had stuff given to us from a colleague. She is quite well off, but she dishes out the worse presents ever.
One colleague who is lactose intolerant and cannot drink alcohol had liqueur chocolates. Two others had dvds that looked like they had been dragged out of a blockbusters bargin bin (one rom-com for a football mad lad, and a kids dvd for another). I ended up with jewellery that I found had been previously been wornand to top it all it was a fake pearl necklace
).
Opening these presents was the highlight of our Xmas Eve at work.A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.:D0 -
You could have had so much fun with this...
"Oh, but I'm going to buy Aunty Mabel this amazing kitten pitcure, it's eyes follow you around the room and it's adooorbblleee"
"And I saw this fantastic low maintenance flower arrangement that would be just perfect for...."
I like your style.:D

Mmmmm... well here we go.. I have had a few humdingers..
When I was about 14 I was short 5ft maybe and a slim size 8 (not now though!!:rotfl:) imagine how pleased I was when I unwrapped my Christmas present from my good parents to find a size 26 t-shirt which touched the floor. My Dad who is 6ft out it on and it came to his knees!! :rotfl: mum could get in it with him and there was room to spare. The bit that really narked me was that I had seen them two weeks before Christmas., would it be possible to go from Size 8 to 26 in that time??!!
We had three distant 'posh' relatives who used to give me gift vouchers but not useful ones.. I remember being particularly cross one year because I received £5 n from each of them but for tie rack, river island and next respectively. I didn't go to town often and did not usually stop at these kind of shops, when I did go there wasn't much if anything that could be bought for £5. I know it seems ungrateful but I wish they hadn't bothered as they had no idea what I would like (Boots, WH Smiths, Waterston's, debenhams) and I really struggled with wording the thank you note because mum would insist that I put what Would spend it on and no one I knew shopped at any of these places
When I was 11 I got some lavender scented draw liners.
In more recent years...DH has a relative who is notorious for terrible presents. Previous years I have had bundles of half used make up, paper napkins, free pens washing up liquid, a hideous vase and towels of varying colours. One year they came to see our recently decorated bathroom and remarked what a lovely shade of blue it was.... I got a revolting dark\racing green towel that year :rotfl:We have also received packs of 100 tea lights each,.
DH has had a bike lock and bike puncture repair kit and a lock which is handy apart from the fact that he hasn't got a bike!! :rotfl: He also got baubles and fairy lights for his birthday in June one year.
Said relative bought my grandma a nice present this year. My grandma is 93, very tall and slim very Victorian esk in her sense of dress and is always very neatly turned out. She had a nice big squishy parcel, opened it to reveal a brought fuschia pink size 18 blouse and matching mini skirt! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I like pigs a normal amount. (sorry don't know how to quote)

My department secret Santa at work was an eyebrow raiser this year. It was a mug, with pictures of oranges on it. Inside the mug was a jar of marmalade (not special or hm or anything - bog standard supermarket marmalade). On closer inspection, the bottom of the mug says 'marmalade festival 2011'! Clearly a recycled gift. I don't mind recycled gifts at all but this is just odd....I am not a fan of marmalade and I never drink hot drinks at work, so the mug makes little sense either. .
If that is an Emma Bridgewater marmalade festival mug they are very collectable and worth a few bob. They are now about £20 new but a 2011 will be worth more- check it out on ebay. Do international postage when you sell it as they sell well to japan and USAJune challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -

Oooooh this could be the Antiques Roadshow of weird christmas presents!0 -
I had a strange present from a chum - it is an audio book by an author I cannot stand (he wrote No.1 Ladies Detective Agency). I know why she has given me an audio book - because I am losing my sight only I am not blind yet! I have no intention of listening to this book so I am pondering on ebaying it and putting the money towards something that I do want.0

One great Aunt bought 3 of us aged 5,7,9 blue berets in the 70's. Cue loads of OOH Bettys.
Another great Aunt bought my Dad sugared almonds every Christmas, no-one ever discovered why, he doesn't like them. When she died my Dad thought that would be the end of it, but no her sister started as she couldn't see my Dad without his sugared almonds at Christmas....."If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.":DMiss Mona, The Best Little *****house in Texas0 -
A colleague of mine was given a bag of almonds by elderly patient, after Christmas my friend told the elderly lady how much she and her family had enjoyed them.
The elderly lady then went on to say that her family bought her chocolate almonds all year but as her teeth weren't strong she sucked the chocolate off and put the almonds into bags for all her friends at Christmas!
Friend nearly vomited!0 -
