Branston beans at Tesco

Just for the record I like Lidl baked beans but they are a little different from the standard baked bean. The beans themselves are slightly larger and softer and the sauce not as sweet. They remind me of the sort of bean and sauce that you get in tinned cassoulet from French supermarkets. So I suppose they're slanted towards the more European tastebud? On the whole I find Lidl own brand products to be significantly less sweet than the UK equivalents.Val.0

Don't you know it's a near-criminal offence to dislike anything from Lidl or Aldi to some of the denizens of this forum?
You do seem to have a bit of a bee in your bonnet on that topic don't you - saw you holding forth in a similar vein in another thread earlier.
On topic I've always been a Heinz man in the past, nothing else would do, although I did have a brief flirtation with Asda own label, which are very nice in their own way.
However I've now made the change purely because I think Heinz like some other manufacturers (Coleman's English Mustard, Marmite) have altered the magic formula and they're just not the same. I bought four tins of Branston beans for £1 in Lidl the other day and they're really tasty0 -
Home bargains, 39p a can or 4 pack for £1.50.
Always in stock, and I always buy them. I don't like heinz, they're a bit sweet, same the same with the tomato soup in my opinion.
Although they brought out baked beans made up from five different beans, and I liked them (would of thought the sauce was the same? probably a psychological dislike
)
Tesco's copied the 5 bean thing, they sell them at 50p a tin, and they're nice too

I only like Branson or Hp beans, recently I have got the hp beans from pound land 3 for £1 and they are very nice.
I think Heinz beans are overrated too.0 -

"HP Baked Beans they're the beans for me. HP Baked Beans I've seen them on TV!"
I didn't know they still made them. The big three when I was a kid were Heinz, HP and Crosse & Blackwell but of those I only ever see Heinz now. I'm going to Poundland tomorrow so I'll have a look.0 -
Out of interest, has anyone found that Branston beans have gone a bit watery and have smaller beans? The latest batch I brought were very watery. My mum had some older ones from earlier this year and they were like a thick soup compared. I hope they don't go down the watering them down route.
We've noticed exactly the same. I thought it was just a poor batch but apparently not!You do seem to have a bit of a bee in your bonnet on that topic don't you - saw you holding forth in a similar vein in another thread earlier.
You're right bean. it never fails to amaze/amuse me how pathetic some posters can be over trivia. it seems some like to take an opposing view automatically. Each to his own I suppose.:)0 -
Morrisons have the Branston 4 packs for £1.19 at the moment.0

You have it quite the wrong way round. The people with 'bees in their bonnets' are the Aldi/Lidl fanbois (and girls) who seem to have formed a bit of a cult about the two chains.0 -

I just couldn't understand why you were contributing several times to the thread about Aldi/Lidl best buy recommendations when you've made it plain you don't like them and don't shop there!
Anyway, back to what I said earlier about "the Big Three" I've just noticed that Branston beans are of course made by Crosse & Blackwell (now owned by Princes I believe). As I have both them and Heinz in the cupboard at the moment I'm off to Poundland to seek out the HP. Then I feel a taste test coming on0
