Hidden facebook other inbox

Hi guys. Does anyone know how to turn off the Other inbox in facebook? I just found a pile of ancient unread messages there.
Apparently if someone isn't your friend and they message you, it goes to the Other inbox, but facebook doesn't notify you and it's not something I ever check.
Could we have something in the weekly email to remind people to check there in case old friends are trying to contact them?
Or even better, do you have any contacts at facebook? Can we ask them to review this annoying "feature"?
