BA delay -> missed Megabus

Hello. I was recently on a flight from South Korea to London, which was delayed for 2 hours 50 minutes. In reality, it was a longer delay, as we just sat on the plane for a while (longer than usual!)

This delay meant I had to buy some new megabus tickets, for the price of 50 quid.

Is there really NO way I can claim back this money? I have done a bit of reading, and it looks like I can't - but thought maybe I missed something. I just want back the money that's mine! :(

    Only through travel insurance - and your excess is probably about £50. You could still write to the airline and ask if they will refund you the fare - they might!

    That's why you purchase travel insurance is it not?

    sorry, I DO have travel insurance, but with an excess of 150 quid. So I was wondering if there;s any way I could claim off the airline instead. Well, thanks for the help!

    Ask BA for some Avios.

    BA were contracted to get you to the London Airport - once you arrive at the airport then the contract with them ceases. No airlines will take responsibility for onwards transportation unless under a goodwill payment. You can ask nicely but they are not required to pay you anything

    Your only RIGHT is to compensation for delays of three hours or more, and then only if the delay is the airline's fault rather than the result of "exceptional circumstances". However, you could try writing a polite letter, since the delay was fairly significant.
  • You say "In reality, it was a while longer" - have you checked what the official arrival time was? For instance if you boarded 2 hours 50 mins late, but were then kept on the tarmac for a while then your arrival delay may have been over 3 hours.
