Taking something back to a shop on a gift receipt

If you change something by using a gift receipt be aware you may only be given today's price which is probably lower than before Christmas. I tried this yesterday and was told the credit note of £69 but then I produced the actual receipt and said no I want what I paid £85. Fair play the retailer did change it to £85 without no fuss.
Just be aware if you try and change something on a gift receipt.
I suspect if the price had increase you would not be offered more... I assume it's a one way street.

Good one to watch out for but perhaps better suited to praise/vent/warnings?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

As it is really a goodwill gesture then they could have offered you a £5This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If the item is not faulty you are subject to their internal returns policy - which means they can do what they want.0

why did you wait to show them the receipt? Most people would have given them it to start with?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

I've taken items back with a Gift reciept before and have always recieved the full amount as per the reciept...
EDIT: Doh just realised everytime (3 times) i have taken something back with a gift reciept' i always had the original stapled to it....so my comment is actually moot...apologies.0 -

My wife was there, only showed them the actual receipt when my wife was not going to get what she should of back.0 -
Is there a reason for this being posted in two places within a few minutes of each other? Duplicate threads are treated as spamming.
Also in praise, vents and warnings https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/48549490 -

If you bothered to read the first few posts you would see why it was reposted.0 -

That just goes to show how confusing it can get having two posts the same, I had already read the post on PVW and saw the duplicate here so no I didn't read it all. It may have been suggested it was better off elsewhere but that would be for it to be moved not also started there.0
