My rights when returning 'off' food to a store.

I purchased 2 large turkey breasts to feed 15 folk coming for Christmas dinner. I purchased the turkeys in a very reputable shop. On Christmas Day, I opened them to cook them and they were rotten. Use by date was the 26th. I have returned them and was given my money back but am amazed that no form of good will gesture was given as it completely ruined our Christmas Day. Should I have expected anything?

Not having a bit of meat on your plate 'completely ruined' your Christmas day, give over man.
Yes, a goodwill gesture would have been nice, but as for ruining the whole day, put it into context.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
'Rights' and 'goodwill gestures' are not the same thing.
I would have expected an apology and a full refund.
A goodwill gesture would have been nice but not part of your 'rights'.
Just curious - which shop was it?0 -
Have you complained via head office? Sometimes the stores cannot give more than a refund.0

The shop doesn't know how you stored the turkey breasts since you bought them. It could be your fault that they were off.
They replaced them - why should you expect more?0 -
It doesn't take much at this time of the year for food to go off. People tend to do a larger shopping trip, wander around the store for a hour or so, queue for 20 minutes, pop here there and everywhere on the way home and by the time the products get home its lucky if they will be edible within a day or so.0

Who was the retailer/shop ?0 -
Marks and Spencer will refund the money and give you a replacement if you return food items ie you get the item for free.
Tescos have been known to put food items that have been returned back on the shelf - I know because it happened to me! Haven't bought chicken from them since.0
