No: under no circumstances at any time should you ever make a formal complaint by phone. Phone calls can be errr 'lost', forgotten about, mis-recorded etc.
Make a formal complaint always either via an online email portal for complaints or in writing by letter.
It is also much easier to formulate your argument and complaint clearly without exaggeration and rants if it is writing and not via 'voice'0 -

How do you mean they take advantage of him ?Owing on CC £00.00 :j
It's like shooting nerds in a barrel0 -
I mean that the Personal Banking Adviser at Santander is a sales person that will not take no for an answer and that my elderly relative has trouble dealing with her.
He went in to withdraw some money for Christmas, not for the hard sale on insurance, he trusted what the bank said was true.
Why not let him cancel the insurance?0 -
There is a 14 day cooling off period where you can leave the insurer with no cancellation charges.
Also Santander does not charge a fee for cancelling the policy.
£800 is quite a difference to £120.
One good thing that's come out of it is that your relative now has house insurance!0 -
Santander house insurance was so much as he just renew it every year, and did not shop around for the best quote :eek:0

Update
Santander have replied after six months, three pages of waffle
Santander did receive the letter that was sent by my relative cancelling the insurance, but this was not done as the branch manager believed it would leave the house uninsured.
Santander accepts that the insurance and direct debit should have been cancelled when they received the letter and will refund the payments.
They have also offered a £50 goodwill payment.0
