Windows 8 phone - Contacts
I have recently bought a Nokia Lumia 720 Windows 8 phone but I am a bit confused as to how it deals with contacts.
I want to be able to store all contacts on the SIM as well as the phone so that I can easily move them between different phones, as I used to be able to on Android and Nokia non-smartphones.
When I add a new name and telephone number to the contact list, by default is this stored on the phone or SIM?
Can I choose which and if so, how?
When making a call from my contact list how do I select the option of SIM memory or phone memory?

As far as I know you can't store the contacts on the phone or sim with Windows phone 8. If anybody knows any different they can correct me and I would like to know.
When you add contacts they are stored in the "cloud" in your Microsoft account which you are using with you phone.
If you get another smart phone and use the same Microsoft account all your contacts will appear on this other phone from the Microsoft account.0 -
The contacts link to your phone as default but you can sync them to your email meaning you just have to link up your email on your new phone to move them across. Mine are synced up to my hotmail so I can see them across my phome and iPad.
Edit: Just had a look and they automatically link to my hotmail account not the phone. Linking thay email to anotger phone should then migrate them across.0 -
I'm also using Nokia Lumia 625 with windows 8, and Use to store every contact in google drive. even every images and data transferred automatically to the Google drive which is easy to access by using some other smartphone..0

I have a Windows Phone and previously used an Android phone and an iPhone.
My contacts are held with Google (by virtue of a Googlemail account) and seem to appear on all devices.
The Windows phone seems able to import SIM contacts. Quite where it puts new ones I don't know !
As a general observation with Windows Phone, working out what "their way is" and doing it that way seems best. It isn't like Android and it has elements in common with iOS but there is a way of doing everything I've needed but sometimes it isn't obvious.0 -
I have a Lumia 920 and in the Summer I switched network from T-mobile to Three. I have also used a PAYG Sim while abroad on O2 and at no time did I lose any contacts' details.
I don't think these are subsequently stored onto the sim card, however. Though if you use Skydrive you could sync your contacts and download them later on another phone, I think.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
Cloud/phone storage of my contacts is fine if I am moving from smartphone to smartphone but what I am trying to do is to copy the list onto a SIM for use in an old "dumbphone" which I use as a spare when out jogging for example.
Initially I had the same problem with a previous Android phone but found a "Copy to SIM Card" app which worked a treat but I can't find anything similar for Windows.0
