  • Afternoon all
I decided to do the ironing, it gave me an excuse to watch Goodnight Mister Tom whilst doing it, and it means we are all ready when it's time to go back to work.
I've had mashed sardines on toast & a banana for lunch & I made some sausage rolls for hubby.
Hubby bought me a crochet book for Christmas, 20 Crochet Flowers, I'm making a couple of flowers to go on DGD's hat, she asked for a matching hat & scarf, a round scarf & flowers on the hat, I think she meant an infinity scarf, so that's what I've made her.
We are visiting the inlaws on Tuesday, have our DGS visiting on Wednesday, DD & her partner visiting on Thursday & DGD1 on Friday, if I'm still standing we'll have DGD2 on Saturday & then rest all day Sunday, ready for work on Monday!
I've finished my cuppa so it's time I wielded the vacuum.

As I'm trying to get more savvy about meal planning, I just wondered if anyone had a foolproof way of keeping recipes in order. I've noticed some just while I've been reading through posts on here that I've now stuck in Word just as a quick fix while I'm reading through posts. But as I don't really like recipe books (I wouldn't cook most of what's in them), tend to grab my recipes as I go on the internet and such like, just wondered if anyone else did the same.
I save all the recipes I get online on a dedicated flash drive, in folders with titles like "winter main courses", "summer main courses", "winter desserts", "summer desserts", "quick snacks", "pickles and preserves" etc, etc. I have a netbook that I can take into the kitchen, so all I need do is insert the flash drive and call up the relevant recipe.:o

DH spoke to his dad about his sister and asked if she'd said anything about us upsetting her as we haven't had so much as a Xmas card from them - FIL and MIL then proceed to tell us that they haven't seen nephew since the summer - they have sent him 2 lots of money for his holidays and haven't had a phone call or thank you note, they haven't spoken to him either. Nephew was supposed to be with his mum and her partner for Boxing Day and FIL and MIL were expecting a phone call or visit so they could see him, but have heard nothing. SIL visited FIL and MIL on the Sunday before Xmas - without her son and when MIL asked where he was (they wanted to see him as they haven't for so long) they were told he was with his dad (they parted 3/4 years ago and she had him full time, and he visited his dad's for weekends and sometimes a night in the week). FIL and MIL are thinking that maybe he's living with his dad full time and she's not really seeing him - she's a bit strange and I've always found her incredibly hard work - she always maintained she didn't want children then decided she did - had this 1 lad and was always ready to shove him off to any childcare facility she could find - she hasn't worked since before she had him (due to an industrial injury - it's unlikely she'll ever be able to work again) - and would always put him in any childcare she could find for the whole of any school holidays, before school and after school. He was on a school holiday visit to his dad's when he developed chicken pox the day before he was due to go home (her house) when his dad rang to tell her - she bluntly told him that if he wasn't well she didn't want him back and his dad would have to take time off work and look after him - which he duly did. He's always done majority of the childcare/looking after him when they were together from when nephew was born, he also did majority of the housework and cooking etc. Not quite sure what's going on but MIL says she's going to find out. Ex-bil has now also sold the house and moved in with a new partner and we don't have his address/tel. no. and neither do MIL and FIL - when they asked if they could have the new details they were told Ex-bil didn't see the need for them to know!? All sounds a bit strange to me - maybe I'm just suspicious!?
Sounds a very sad situation for the young lad - I know from personal experience how it feels to have a mother who didn't actually want a child, so I really feel sorry for the poor young chap.:( I can't offer any helpful advice, as I'm the last person to understand family dynamics, but I couldn't just read and run. I don't know how old the lad is - would he be old enough to be on the Book of Face, as a starting point? Just a thought.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

This afternoon will be attempt number three at a crochet glasses case. Why can some of you produce such beautiful things and I can make the simplest thing, I'm rubbish:o but I shall keep trying.
DC stitch, by any chance? I can do the stitch just fine, but trying to get even, straight sides on something is a nightmare - even when I use a stitch marker :D

    Afternoon lovelies

Last few days of my long holiday (which has gone very fast :( ) so not long for you to have to put up with me :rotfl:

Tree down today and all away thank goodness :) love it for christmas but hate it after. Will miss the lovely lights though they made the house look really pretty:)

On a big declutter session now along with some nice plans with friends for new year. Im providing a very large chilli and some cheese and bacon spuds so will crack on with them tomorrow.

Declutter today has involved making a list of everything I have in the 2 freezers :eek: scary and I need to avoid the shops for a while which is not a bad thing. Final nod to christmas is a box of mince pies I found in there so at least its not totally bah humbug here :D

Tru - any new year music to make us smile :)

  • Very frosty here this morning

We went down to see the outlaws and to take them a glass Christmas tree that we got in the sale which MIL loved, daft moo wanted to pay for it, she was told no very firmly.

So that was 2 hours gone, then I put the dinner on when we got back and we finished that at 5.30pm, DH and DS washed up and I have just been surfing for a while.
Tv is not very inspiring tonight so I might just watch one of the DVD's I got for Christmas.
We do not watch a great deal of TV but January looks quite good, Sherlock on New year's day and a new series of the Bletchley Circle on the 6th and a new series of Endeavour in 2014 :D

Will be taking the tree down on the second and then I want to have a major declutter. I love Christmas, but equally love to get back to normal afterwards as soon as I can.

Right off to pour myself a southern comfort and settle for the evening.

  • Good evening chums,a quick peek around the door to say Hi to all of you.I just nipped home quickly to make sure all was well and secure as I am at youngest Dds for a couple more days .We all went to see Ripleys 'Believe It Or Not' exhibition this aftrenoon at Piccadilly Circus,Great fun if a bit on the expensive side, but the boys had a whale of a time(so did their Dad if truth was known :):))
then had some lunch in TGI Friday's,now that was pricey, but a special treat to my DD and the family from me for all the dinners and meals I have at their house throughout the year. We walked down to Trafalgar Square afterwards to see the tree, and the youngest was still at the big-eyed wonder age where he's never seen a tree so huge before.Throughly nice family afternoon, and then back to Blackheath to pick up my car and back down to our little corner of Kent by teatime.
I have been very spoiled this year by both of my DDs present-wise bless them and got so many nice things.best of all was a beautiful granite Pestle and Mortar set that I had been hoping for,as I like to grind my own spices up if I can as fresh as possible.
I know I have overeaten, overspent and over-done things this year, :):) but I have had a super time and I am so lucky to have such smashing ladies for my DDs bless them.
I have to scoot now as youngest DD's making hot chocolate and christmas cake for supper I love Christmas but also enjoy getting back to normal again in the new Year.Talking of which may I wish you all what you wish for yourselves and I hoep you all have a smashing New Year and I as usual will raise a glass when the bells go for those who are with us, and those who for what ever reason cannot be.So to all of you Happy New Year and <<hugs to those who are sad,lonely/poorly or just feel down in the dumps .Wednesday will be a New Year and who knows what it may bring for us all
God Bless you all my virtual pals
