Ebay seller wants bank transfer

  • The seller is breaking ebay rules, using fake details (email address) and could easily scam someone trusting enough to use bank transfer instead of Paypal.

It's not about punishing for wanting to use a free and safe way to receive money, it's warning others that he could be a scammer based on the above. There's no reason for him not to accept Paypal.

What evidence is there that the seller is a scammer??

There's no reason for him not to accept Paypal.

    1. To save on fees.
    2. Because PayPal sometimes locks genuine accounts and holds money.

I just take the hit on fees but the above are genuine reasons whether everyone agrees with them or not.

For others it's to scam but this seller seems genuine anyway. I'd be thrilled if a buyer would be by BACs on anything with a value of £50+

I said COULD be a scammer. I also said based on what I'd written above. So he may a scammer due to the fact the seller is breaking ebay rules and using fake details (email address). It's also an easy way to scam as the buyer has no comeback.

    1. We'd all like to save on fees but that doesn't mean you break ebay rules. He could give a real email address and still ask if people would be happy to pay via bank transfer. Or he could factor in the fees when he lists items.

    2. If the account is locked, genuine seller or not, there must be some reason for it. Personally if that happened to me I'd look to sell elsewhere.

If you don't agree with ebay and paypal rules and terms and conditions you sell/buy elsewhere, you don't give a fake email address.

Course you'd be thrilled, any seller would. Scammers included. That doesn't mean it's right to try and avoid paypal fees or give fake details.

He seems genuine as he allowed the buyer to pick up. He doesn't have 100% positive feedback though. May not mean much but still a point to consider in doing a bank transfer. The next buyer might not be able to pick up, they might not want to do a bank transfer, what's the seller going to do then? Just because it worked out alright for this buyer doesn't mean that another won't run into problems with this seller.

Why would a money saving forum want to punish people who want to use a free and safe way to receive money???

I rarely respond to your unique views on eBay and PayPal, but have you ever heard of acceptable risk?

£80 to you might be worth risking, for many people, and this is a money saving site as you point out, it is a lot of money to risk to a seller that is showing a disregard for rules already and a willingness to play less than fair.
