Labour with 2nd or 3rd child....or more
Comments

First baby born on due date - 'show' at 4am, went in at 9am (still no pain) born at 11.30. Still no pain.....
Second baby born 20 mins before due date, no signs at all but midwife examined me at antenatal in the afternoon, to find I was 5cm dilated. No pain
Third baby I had to go and wait in hospital at 38 weeks 'just in case' due to quick, painless previous births. They induced him five days early. No pain. My sister delivered her baby in the toilet as she had the same 'condition' (precipitate labour).
I have a friend who has 4 children and they were all pain free deliveries. In fact they were so pain free she let her husband lie on the bed she was due to give birth on and he fell asleep almost missing the birth. Actually she nearly missed the birth too as she was sitting in a chair reading a magazine when it fell out.... Now me, you would have had to scrape me up to move me when I was nearing the end of the first stage of labour. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Samtoby thanks for asking this question the replies are very interesting! I've been wondering the same thing as with DS I was in labour for 47 hours from first contraction to holding baby! I'm hoping this time round will be a little shorter!
18+3 weeks pregnant.
Snap on the 47 hours with the first. My 2nd was 12 minutes= good job i was waiting on a ward to be induced
3rd baby reverted to about 14 hours in total
All 3 were back to back babies0 -
All mine were different...
DS1 - 16 days overdue, had been to see the consultant that day and he must have done a bit of a sweep or something as on the stroke of midnight my waters broke and contractions were regular. Got to the hospital and was examined about 1.30am and was 7cm, started wanting to push not long after that and got on the gas n air, but he had his head tipped back and he got a bit jammed, so episiotomy and forceps and I tore as well. He was born at 4.53am weighed 6lb 13oz and whisked off to an incubator as he was distressed. I joked I must have had the Bayeux tapestry stitched on my foof as they took so long to put it all back together! He was in SCBU for 24 hours and had a brain scan as the forceps damaged his head, and I had to go and feed him every 2 hours. The next night they gave him a bath as he'd been covered in his own poo at birth but they wanted him to rest quietly for a while. When he was all clean we could see he had blond curly hair. We stayed in for a week as we'd both had such a rough time!
DS2 - 4 days overdue, labour started gradually in the middle of the night and it was all in my back, think it was the way he was lying. Went on all day not really getting any worse not quickly anyway, it was a heatwave, 3rd week in August, so we had a few ice lollies while we waited for something to happen. Went off to the hospital after lunch and walked up and down the ward a bit. They gave me some pethedine but I think that just made me and baby really sleepy. Anyway, it got to about 4.30 pm and I said 'oh for god's sake, how much longer?' and the midwives were like 'well we can't say could be a while yet' but I'd had enough so I said 'right come on you' and he was born 10 mins later weighing 7lbs 7oz and the cord round his neck!
DS3 - 14 days late, saw the midwife and she sent me to the hospital and they said you'll have to come in and we'll induce you, went in on the Friday afternoon, and they gave me a squirt of prostaglandin or whatever it was, anyway I was in agony all night, dragging pains, I was in a side-room with no distractions and didn't sleep at all. They gave me another dose in the morning and that started things off then. I phoned my OH to come in and asked to go up to the labour ward for some pain relief and the midwife said 'you'll have to act like you're in pain then' she didn't believe I was in labour - this was about 12 noon, I said I am in labour and I'll have had this baby by 3.00pm. He was born at 2.30 - the heaviest of the three at 7lbs 15oz. Went home the next morning.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame
