All supervising drivers must be covered by insurance on the vehicle being driven by the learner so every one who will supervise would need to be named.

    https://www.collingwoodlearners.co.uk/ might be some use.

The policy is in your name & allows you to drive her car under supervision. Any accident/claim will be on your policy keeping your GF no claims intact.

It's only temporary, I think, but might be worth a look.

How much will it cost you to buy a cheap banger and register and insure it in your own name with your girlfriend as a named driver? This way has the advantage of you earning ncd ready for when you pass your test and the premiums shoot up.

She can move to another insurer although it may be costly.

It just happens that the company she is with now dont want the extra risk. My insurer wont cover anyone under 25, Or those that have held a licence for less than a year.
They also require that you have driven a car of similar size/power for at least a year. A few hoops there. But it suits me and the price has not risen in the past 4 or 5 years that i have used them.

Does she want to swap insurer just to add you? And then you put her no claims at risk.

I can't see any age restrictions on their site.

  • I bought provisional driver insurance from Marmalade when my son was learning recently. It was separate from the policy on my car. It covered him when driving under supervision. I don't think I had to say who the supervisor or car was. About £80 @ month and can be renewed as long as you need it.
