Provisional Driver Insurance

I'm having big problems trying to get insured or covered on my girl friends car. The problem is that she is 22 and I'm 24. I can't find anyone that will cover me for a 22 year old to supervise a provisional driver without her changing her insurance completely.

Does anyone know anyone that can do this?
Thanks in Advanced!

Providing she has held her licence long enough then whats the issue?

Lots of companies should be able to quote for her as the policy holder/main driver and you as a learner.

The issue is she already has a policy that do not want to cover for that and she probably wont want to pay the extra and lose any no claims earned this year.

Wait until the policy is due for renewal? Or get additional learner insurance.

Although that may cost you the best part of £100 a month just to cover yourself on her car.

The insurance company she is already with and payed in full for won't have me as a named driver because they only cover people with 3+ years driving experience.

There are plenty of places that will cover me with no problem. The main requirement is that I can have a driver of 25 years old and held a full licence for 3 years for their policies(any) problem being the only full licencee and held it for 3+ years is my girlfriend at 22. Their view is that anyone under the age of 25 is a risky insure.

So her renewal is not until next October. And additional learner on her insurance is for drivers driving for 3 years+. You can not have more than 1 insurance on 1 vehicle so a policy for myself is out. Lastly provisional addition to other insurance companies with the likes of Marmalade and Aviva require the age of a supervisor to be 25 years old+ and 3 years+.

The minimum with the law is that someone can supervise from the age of 21 and with 3 years holding a full licence.

This is confusing. The person supervising you(as a learner) is too young? What if you were to be supervised by her and others eg a parent, friend etc? You cannot name every one who will be the superviser surely?

Correct but she is not exclusively the only person who can give the OP driving lessons. You do not need to own or insure a car you are supervising a learner in do you?

So where did you get the too young part?

It would make sense to be covered on the policy if you are taking out a learner.

You do not need to tell the insurer who is supervising you. There is no problem if friends or family etc are above the age of 25 years old and has a full licence of 3 years + and that is the requirement for the cover to be valid. If I am driving as the learner and the supervisor is under the age of 25 then the cover is invalid therefore illegal. As part of the law the supervisor whilst not driving is still considered in control of the vehicle.

The problem in my situation is she is the only one who 1. I can use her car 2. will take me out on the road, so I need to be covered by someone that can allow someone under the age of 25 who can supervise a learner with a provisional licence.

All supervising drivers must be covered by insurance on the vehicle being driven by the learner so every one who will supervise would need to be named.

I believe this is only the case if I were to be on the main drivers insurance.

    Would they?

Have you got a link to back that up?
