HD tv is only beneficial if you are subscribing to hd. Otherwise doesn't make much difference. Size of room should determine size of tv.

HD TV has a less restrictive colour gamut, so you will see a benefit to picture.

It's viewing distance rather than room size that is a rough guide to screen size.

No subscription is required to receive HD channels on Freeview or Freesat.

    LG 42LN540V

How bizarre, I've just been on the richer sounds website and it too lists the TV as 'Freeview Ready', yet its listed as having a Freeview HD tuner with full 1080p.

Its in their sale at £269.95 -

    I may get one myself!

    Bought one (42LN540V) today.

Four Richer Sounds stores closet to us did not have it in stock ... was told that the store in Reading had 5. Called store to check and the person confirmed they had 5 but may not last for long. 60 miles and 90 minutes later at the Reading store was told that they had only 2 left and I was buying one of them.

£296.90 in all with 5 year warranty.

Worth the effort? Price, yes! Performance .. don't know yet ... haven't opened the box yet.

To be fair to Ky-An, I think this poster was thinking of the 60+ HD channels available (mostly subscription) from Sky. He obviously wasn't aware of the BBC, ITV and CH4 HD channels available Free To Air.

Ah ha! Incorrect. There is one left, coincidentally at my local store....

Also, allegedly, RS are getting more of this set in at that price in a week's time, so i am keen to hear user experiences!
