O/S Daily Saturday 28th December 2013 O/S Daily Saturday 28th December 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all!!! Don't often post now as haven't been very MSE recently, at least no more than normal.

Today I will be cleaning the oven as it is in desperate need!!! My children have kindly shared their colds and sore throat with me so I won't be affected by the fumes!!! Am also going to bling up a pair of shoes for new year!! So will be braving the sales to get some diamant! trim and some strong glue and glitter! Cheaper to bling up an old pair that I don't wear, rather than buying a new pair!!!!

Also starting my resolutions which are to look after my health and me more. So I will find my thyroxine and take it daily and listen to what my body requires. I also need to train as I am doing the 3 peaks in a day for Altzheimers research in July. Sofa slug to 25 miles in a day in 6 months!!!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark outside, but still a bit blustery but not as bad as yesterday.

DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early. DS2 still fast asleep in his pit.

Dinner last night was LO turkey, ham etc, salad, and jacket potato - managed to use up several bits that needed using up. Tonight we will be having curry, rice and extras.

I was reasonably productive yesterday - got to the bank and building society and did what was necessary at both of them. Did a quick shop - still spent far more than I wanted to though. Carried on with the washing, drying and ironing - basket still doesn't seem that much emptier - so will crack on with getting that done today. I did get over 2 doz mince pies and sausage rolls made - so menfolk now happy there's something else in the tins! Made turkey stock from carcass, and also made a bag of breadcrumbs from a few slices of bread that needed using up - they are now safely stashed in the freezer. Spent some time yesterday researching recipes and just trying to look at different foods - was actually a bit shocked as I put a good portion of salad on both boys plates and they cleared it up - no problem at all - I think they are now maturing and are happy to try new foods. Also I'm trying to find some recipes where I can cook double and then have a dinner ready made for the 2 days I work all day - those days are becoming more stressful as we're more and more short staffed and we're seeing as many customers or more than we were! So very often don't feel like cooking when I get home. I will continue researching recipes. We don't eat mince - I use quorn mince instead - which is just as versatile - but DH not keen on shepherds pie - but I'm thinking of trying making up a really cheesy mashed potato to put on the top and then making him a couple of roast potatoes, veg and gravy to go with it. The shepherds pie can be completely made ahead and just refrigerated and just put in the oven to re-heat. Very often we have LO meat from Sunday's roast on a Tuesday evening - it just depends on whether I've cooked a roast and if there's any left. I'm thinking this is going to be a bit of a New Year project! We have lots of tubs of LO foods in the freezer - will be endeavouring to start using some of them up but haven't labelled all of them so it could be a few strange mixtures.

I'm hoping I can quickly ride over to the big new MrS this morning - as I love this shop and even though it get's busy it does seem to absorb people very well and they have a good range of most things - I'm looking to see what they have in their cookware range as I have a good lidded deep frying pan from there which is brilliant.

Need to get a shower and some brekkie.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Morning all

I've not long got up, DH followed moaning he has a sore throat and his back is playing him up, all his wrists are swollen too.. so thats him out of action today.

Not much to do today, feed the animals, switch the WM on, a quick hoover round, empty a small basket of ironing, and make the beds, also want to do a freezer inventory, I really want to stick to menu planning next year so want to get ahead and make a start, I'm sure I have enough in the freezers to keep us going for the next 2 weeks.

My parents are due to arrive today, well mum said it would either be this eve or tomorrow, hope its tomorrow cos I forgot to get the pork we were going to have for tea this eve out of the freezer, so tonight we are going to have jacket potato with LO prawn cocktal and salad.

Hope everyone has a lovely day x

And Peace reins………well for now (it could change at any minute).

Two sons to work at 5.30 and four cuppas consumed.

Poppy looks like the turkey bone is working it's way through. It is an emergency for any animal but cooked is better as the gastric juices can dissolve it as long as it is not stuck.

Online shop for my parents - i do hope thins are ok for them today. They have made a momentous decision to move to our town after living in the same house for 50 years. So all the dissent was not in vein. This will be a huge undertaking for which we will be responsible but it will be so much easier. Dementia is such a sad disease but luckily my Dad is still with us and for that I give thanks to God x

Youngest son seems a little more settled and they looked after him with compassion in a very busy A and E giving him a little room so that he could snuggle down and we could dim the lights to lessen his anxiety. My motherly instinct kicked in big time when a drunk approached DS3 in the hospital and drunk got the tongue lashing he deserved and a wield with my walking stick. Don't ever cross a mummy in protective mode. The drunk was escorted off the premises!

Very quiet day today - gonna lay off the chocs as they exacerbating my head aches - why do we do that to ourselves? eat something that is bad for us.

Love and hugs for a good OS day and DONNY - safe driving x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning all

nmic have you considered MinceCobbler there are various rescipes for this is you google it as well as the above. I do it for DH as while his likes stodgy (high carb) food, cannot have high far, which dumplings often are.

Well it looks like our NY rally is off, neither of us up to it, I am still barking though not as often or as bad, and DH has full blown man flu! And I am sure that over 100 folk would not like to share this with us.

Yesterday we watched as much TV as we often do in a week, mainly catchup though. Must agree about the TV, I think the two funny things we watched, Still Open All Hours, and Victoria Wood's Mid Christmas Crisis. I liked the non foul language innuendo comedy, laughed far more at these than some of the so called comedians of today.

Neither if us have much appetite, nor CBA'd to cook much, so last two nights have been various cold meats, with oven chips and tinned beans or peas. Will tackle to diet in the NY.

((Hugs)), Spoons, etc., to those under par, not like us just full of sn0t and self-pity. Take care everyone. DG

P.S. Looks like we crossed Molly, doesn't loo like we are going anywhere far, DH certainly not up to towing ATM. Glad A&E were good we DS. Would love to have seen you in full blown Mother mode.:rotfl::rotfl::T:T

My Dad had of Dementia, not easy to cope with, didn't know us for the last 5 years of his life.

Molly, that's why I'm doing the 3 peaks walk for Altzheimers - really for dementia as it's affected my family too

Morning all,

wet and miserable here with spiteful rain showers every so often.

The bin men were round early and left my recycling because I'd put out the wrong sacks. Silly me, I should have checked personally, not relied on DH to read the chart he was standing next to. :wall:

(lengthy rant about a million small irritations removed :o:o:o)

I bought the birthday cards for the coming year yesterday, a box of Xmas cards and some tags but all the paper had gone. I have also bought several non perishable gifts to put away but still need to find nice wrapping paper. We only used 4 crackers so the boxes I bought last January are still unused. I love my Christmas cupboard :D

Today - do something with the last of the turkey, clean the sink (washing soda time, I think) and sort out the ironing.

Very tempted to take down the decorations but shall hold off till Jan 1st as usual. It has been a peculiarly bland few days: getting old I think.

Hugs all round x
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Morning :santa2:

Mr tru is going to work today, thank goodness. I spent all afternoon yesterday wanting him to go out :D I need a day to myself, I have things to do and I like an empty house while I'm doing them. Was reminded last night that we'd arranged to meet a couple of friends later, I really don't want to go :(

Today I'm putting the washing machine to work, there's loads of towels, tea towels etc. and our bedding. I'll write a shopping list for next week, this week's was very short, just milk :D Next week's won't be much more.

I'm starting my lists today - savings target, budget, food inventory and job stuff. If I can get my sales up, I won't need a job. Can't see that happening, so will have to look for a job :D

• Good morning all.
Not to bad weather wise here today. Might even get some washing on the line.
Got to pop into town today to pick up some new pens and bits for the new command center (we will be organised next year).
Got to see what's left in the freezer and menu plan for next month so I know what bits I need to buy (hopefully not a lot). Dh has a few shelves to put up for me today and we really must make a start on the office as after Xmas it looks like a bomb site.
Dinner will prob be pizza as I know there is one of the lurking in the depths of the freezer.
Anyway must get on as I don't want dh losing his motivation now I have him on a roll.
Hugs to all xx
Bright Blessings xx
