Hi,

I have ported over today to Tesco Mobile on the £12.50 per month on the sim only 1 month contract. The porting over completed around 3pm this afternoon and I've noticed that the Tesco Mobile App for the iPhone is reporting that I've already used 142Mb of the 2GB allowance. This is seems odd as the phone has been connected to my Wifi all evening and I've only turned this off a few times to do some speed tests with the speedtest.net app, could the speedtest.net app be the reason for such a high usage in just a matter of hours? I've closed down all background applications to. I am new customer and this is my first contract with them so I have not rolled over from another service with them.

I was just wondering if there is anyone on here with Tesco mobile and if so do they find that the Tesco mobile app also reports high internet usage for them?

many thanks,

cant say ever had an issue
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Ok. I've also turned off the cellular data option while I'm using Wifi as that may have been contributing to it, aside from that though I am happy and I am getting speeds of 12Mb over 3G which is a good improvement to what I was getting before with Vodafone.

Edit - The app is showing that I've just used 10mb in the last 10mins

I have never had a problem with the app.
Have you logged into your account online to see if your data usage is the same. If it is I would give customer services a ring.

Download one of the data usage apps such as Onavo Count or Data Monitor and see if they agree with the Tesco App usage.

You can also see the usage in Settings if you're using iOS 7.

I just bought the 1 month SIM only deal this afternoon and tried it out. I have My Data Plan installed so could see what it was using when testing the speed with the Speedtest app. Each time it used roughly 4 or 5mb so it can't be that.

However after I used the speedtest app, I noticed £1.36 and then £4 of extra charges showing up in my Tesco Mobile app. My online account shows the same alert as I have initially set up a £5 cap.

In the hour that the Tesco sim was in my phone, I made 1 one phone call to my landline number, sent 3 texts and used around 14mb of data. Nothing chargeable in that as I have 500 minutes, 5000 texts and 1gb of data.

The Tesco Mobile app shows what's used correctly and no-one can explain what these extra charges are. Phoned Customer Services who can see nothing wrong but advised that their systems are 5 hours behind real time. Only thing they can suggest is to contact them later which I will.

Can't figure this one out at all. Perhaps there's a gremlin in the app.
  • Hi,

Just thought I'd reply back to update this thread, in my case it seems like the Speedtest.net iPhone app was causing the high usage in data, I've removed this and the data usage is ok again now.

Seems very odd then. I've used the speedtest app with an iPhone on Tesco Mobile. It was using around 14mb each time.

According to CS, the extra charges were for international texts to my home landline number. After a bit of an argument that I hadn't made any international texts far less international texts to my own landline which is in the UK, they refunded the extra £4 charges. I was told the SIM may be faulty and to go to a store and get it swapped out which I now have done.

Still arguing over another £1 of the same type of charges whilst the "faulty" SIM was in the phone and I was talking to CS. This charge wasn't showing up when I made the first call to CS.

Haven't had any problem with the new SIM although I have now hit my £5pm cap which I have no intention of increasing at the moment till I'm sure this strange issue has been sorted.
