The latter half of this year has seen me be rather shameful with updates both here and my own diary :o I am certainly looking to get back into the swing of things in the new year though. Here's a quick review of my goals at the start of 2014...

    1. Become debt free (preferably a couple of months earlier than my current DFD of August)

Ok so this one didn't strictly happen by my deadline as we ended up buying the house far far earlier than we ever thought. When I look back through my debt free journey I do think I should give myself a pat on the back - I first took stock in January 2013 and started with a debt level of around the £10k mark. Right now all that is left of this is just under £1k which is on 0% interest until 2016. Not bad going really when you consider we've also purchased our first place!!

    2. Save £2k toward house deposit

Managed to get this together on top of the debt reduction and we moved into our beautiful first home on 1st August :)

    3. Get to the gym 3 times a week and get healthy - hopefully this will put me back under 10st

I have been lame at the gymming but wasn't paying a monthly fee so it's not too drastic. Through dieting (5:2 is magic!) I am just sitting on the 10st mark which I'm happy enough with for now.

    4. Drink at least a litre of water a day - I know it should be more but at the moment I barely drink a single sip so a litre will be a good increase!

I am doing ok-ish with this. One to keep trying in the new year!

    5. Book a holiday after avoiding anything longer than a weekend away during 2013

This took a back seat after the house purchase, IT IS HAPPENING in 2015 though for sure!!

    6. Teach myself to play a song on a guitar - need to find a guitar first!

I have done nothing with this so far. Perhaps I should ask for a guitar from Santa?!

All in all I don't think its all bad, I am wanting to start another diary on here for the new year as we have bought some stuff for the house on 0% finance and I onviously want to get rid of all that remains of my personal debt too. I am also saving £300 per month at the moment and have been since we moved so want to concentrate on getting a nest egg together as well as generally enjoying life a bit more. I feel I have been a little grumpy in myself this year, I haven't been happy and felt quite stressed with one thing or another. I want to strive for a happier year next year, I have things quite good when you strip it back - brand new house, a job that pays ok that I'm actually pretty decent at, a wonderful BF who puts up with my grumps without a word and a lovely group of friends and family. I just need to make the most of what I already have and be more content!

I'm really looking forward to christmas (1st year to host the family!) and I'm looking forward to 2015 the year I become happier! I hope everyone else thoroughly enjoys the festive season and I can't wait for the new 2015 goals thread!!
    Nest Egg Savings Target: £7300/£10,000
    Wedding Savings: £2660/£8,000

    1. Pay car insurance in cash.

    2. Pay home insurance in cash.

    3. Pay MOT, servicing and repairs in cash.

    4. Pay Road Tax in cash.

    5. Have my first proper holiday in years.

    6. Pay for said holiday in cash.

    Numbers 1, 3 and 4 I've already done once, in 2013. :)

Into the last month, and all completed, bar Number 2. :(

Nice to see you DR - I see you've been losing weight - go you girl, that's awesome!

I've had some great money saving things happen recently. I complained about service in mothercare and got a £50 voucher...(put it to the car seat and isofix base...lol), price matched our baby's nursery furniture and d!cor from mamas and papas (if you see it cheaper online you need to ring up and get them to match the price - I've done it twice saving over £250 :):)) I've also bought tons of great quality clothes from ebay - some brand new! Oh and my friend is giving us loads of stuff for free... bargioni!

  • Hi all,

I've been looking for just this type of thread so I'm thrilled I've stumbled across it today, I hope you don't mind if I join in??

I've nearly finished a very very strict two year debt program which will see us become debt free in 14 short days :D:D

There is so much I want to achieve next year, I'm a little worried now we're debt free we won't be as dedicated with the savings plans but we'll have to see.

If it's alright with you guys I'll pop back towards the end of the month with my plan for 2015.

    See you soon

Get ready for the disasterpiece that is stewby...

    1) clear debt by end 2014...
Erm, nope. New goal is April 2015.

    2) budget better!!
This is improving, thanks to NSK/NST's challenges.

    3) save £60 a month for a contingency fund.
This did kinda work... although I used it for different things throughout the year. Not quite for contingencies.

    4) take part in challenges to keep foccussed.
Still doing this and they appear to be working. Thinking of doing two next year. £1 a day and the NSK/NST monthly challenges.

    5) lose 72lbs in weight.
    Erm... oh dear.

    6) OH to get his dream flying job.
    No longer happening.

    7) Plan a dream holiday to New York.
Still working on this (Plan is formed but money is an issue). Still desperate to go to New York.

    8) get a nice picture of me and OH to go on display.
Didn't lose weight. Didn't get a nice picture. Well, I have one which is okay I suppose but not displayable for public use.

So all in all, I think we can call it a bit of a disaster. Will work harder in 2015 with better goals. (well almost the same goals but with more dedication).
    :embarasse

    See you in 2015.
