darcyboo have you considered either looking on ebay for a replacement phone or taking out a mobile ins (I think there is protect my bubble and a few others) leaving it for a little while then making a claim? I shattered my phone screen, paid out £100 but then afterwards thought it wasn't worth all that money!

Please ignore the second part of this advice which amounts to fraud!!

Have you taken your phone to your local Apple store as I understand that they can sometimes be very helpful in replacing screens etc at not too great a cost.

Gadget insurance is not generally worth the paper it's written on due to the terms of the policies - you would be far better to set aside an amount each month and self insure.

I should be OK as being quite strict with myself! In December I worked out my outgoings and had a shock, so for once I'm feeling positive about a budget. I should have £160 left over, although Dad's birthday present has to come out of that.

On the subject of phone repairs, if it's a brand new iPhone it may be different, but I replaced parts within an iPhone 3GS and got it working again (my sisters old one). I also jailbroke it and got O2 to unlock it free of charge as the contract had ended, so I spent less than £25 and had a phone that has so far lasted me quite well. I shall keep it until I find that I can no longer upgrade the operating system and that prevents me from getting apps.
  • Should be OK here. Christmas was budgeted for. Just need to keep an eye on my the spending. Avoiding the shops!
  • I'm really excited about January, no reason to spend other than DD2's birthday, for the first time ever Christmas was paid for before December payday so I'm looking to stick to budget and hit the debts hard before hubby starts his new job and takes a wage cut. We have plenty of food in, far too much alcohol and chocolate left over and no scary bills about to drop through the door :)

I don't think I've ever looked forward to January before :)

  • I should be ok, providing I stick to my budget to the penny. All our bills are paid & we have plenty of food/drink in. January tends to be a quiet month socially too so plenty of nights in :)

I pay my council tax over 10 months, with no payments in February and March. I wish mine wasn't due in January.

Actually, like yours, mine is from April to January inclusive, but my pay day is 5 days after the CT is due, so I make my first payment in March instead of April, hence my last payment is in December instead of January.

Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I got a bit more money than I was expecting for Christmas so I'm planning on sticking that in my savings account for now as I'm on a 0 hr contract at work and, though I had lots of hours at Christmas, I don't know how many shifts I'll get in January :( so I might need that money for bills etc.

I'm on a DMP also, got about £5000 left to pay... Light is at the end of the tunnel! Wish I could pay it off in one go though!:T

successfully managed to miss the dealine for subitting my timesheet to my agency the week before xmas, so got paid the princely sum of £85 for xmas week. still it means I should get two weeks worth next week.
Luckily HWTHMBO was paid (monthly) and I'd already done the xmas shop so not too bad.
however, it's HWTHMBO's 'significant birthday' <cough>halfcentury<cough> in the middle of January so I'm hoping to get a good run up at my hours for the week after the kids go back to school so I can afford to give him a slap up meal out with all the family.

  • January is going to be agony for us. We've been paid and are starting £700 overdrawn!!! Hubby has to go to London for a week so there're hotel and food costs and it's my 30th which we will be celebrating by doing NOTHING coz we're skint.

Depressingly none of this is Christmas related and is all entirely down to us not reading the fine print on a course DH signed up for which didn't include VAT in the advertised price.
