Dandy candy. ...I do the same as you with to do lists. I write everything down and cross it off, no matter how small. It helps me feel like I've achievedstuff and actually spurs me on somehow!

Sounds as though you're really doing well Dandy, that's great to hear. My OH likes some home cooked stuff but sometimes just wants a takeaway.

As for your batch cooking why not do something simple like mince that can be savoury mince, chilli or beef biryani?

DS1 goes back to uni on Sunday so I plan to do a batch of mince after that. I was going to make some shepherds pie and lasagne (boh faves of mine) to bung in the freezer. When I cook them do I do it from frozen or let them defrost first? I'm not sure!

It's great isn't it? It's such a simple but effective boost, I think everyone who suffers with blues should really try it :)

It also seems that I need to ask for specific tasks to be done rather than assuming OH and the kids know what I need help with. I dont feel overly confident about all this but its a start![/QUOTE]

I definitely agree with this, if I say tidy up my DH will just do the washing up and Hoover ( I know I should be grateful) if I want more I need to say specifically what to do and my kids all over 18 now are the same.
So I will allocate tasks like, please collect all the bins upstairs and empty them, wipe them and put them back. Please fold up all the clothes on the table sort them and put them into the owners room.

Maybe you could try making a list of what needs to be done each week, for example Hoover at least every other day, and a list for that specific day, like buy bread and milk.
Then he could see what you want him to do without it feeling like you're nagging.
    Good luck x

I find its easier to defrost them first (if I remember I take something out of the freezer before work) but I have cooked from frozen as well. Just make sure its piping hot all the way through.

This is interesting. OH and I have different standards, always have a guess but nowadays we seem to be pulling further apart in our attitude to domestic stuff. OH doesnt care if the house is a tip, whereas it really matters to me and makes me unhappy. Its really affecting me at the moment and I cant see the solution.

Its silly little things that grate. Last night we went out and hubby draped his coat over a chair in the kitchen when we came in. The coat will stay there until either I put it away or he needs to wear it again. He genuinely will not notice that the coat is there when he gets up this morning whereas I can see it every time I walk through the kitchen.

I probably would be happy if he just kept his own stuff tidy and if we agreed on a few set tasks for him and the kids. I actually dont mind doing a bit of cleaning so long as I dont feel like an unpaid servant.

I can relate to this :(

It's the same with shoes not put away in the shoe cupboard but left in the hallway instead - a couple of feet away from the shoe cupboard

I need to start taking control of the house and all that entails so this has been a very interesting thread to read :o

    Hi dandy candy
How are things going I see you have not posted on this threed since January. Reading your threed I could totally agree with every thing you said it was like reading about myself and my home
I am at the point of where do I start and the main problem is getting the oh to help a) he recons he works soooooo hard all week so he needs his rest at the week ends and b) he dose not see the mess but when he needs to find some thing and can not then It is because I have shoved it away some where.
I'm going to brake it in to small tasks like sujested and write in a diary so I can see how it is going
