I too am looking to buy a new butTV 40-42" I now realise that this board is about 22 or 32" so sorry for straying into it.
Have been looking at Samsung but have read a lot of problems they have had sound wise. 1 year guarantee Sound seems to be biggest problem
Local Pansonic TV shop wher e I live and was in there yesterday They had 2 £499 TX42E6B
TXL42ET60B at £589 both smart tv The thing that is appealing to me is a 5 year Panasonic guarantee which is quite something.
Currently I have a 32" Sony TV which has a 5 year guarantee but have had no problems to date.
Looked at Which but I just become confused My Son said the extended guarantee is something worth having I know tht John Lewis do a 5 year guarantee but this is not a Company guarantee but JL own which may restrict the items covered by it.
Any thoughts ? Would appreciate information and advice.

What's so good about that Toshiba? Looks expensive, you can have better brands for that.
Susan - have a look at the specific SmartTV features of that set. You don't want to find out it's missing something you wanted.
JL can be very worthwhile though as you say with the 5yr warranty if you can get them to match or get close to a rival's price.
