CityLink Major Fail via MyParcelDelivery

  • Or a few days earlier instead of on the death. You chose city link. Thats just asking for trouble...
  • But my complaint isn't about the fact they weren't delivered in time for Christmas per se. It's about the fact that I didn't receive the next day delivery service that I paid for. The fact that it was Christmas obviously adds to the disappointment but I'd also be complaining if they were collected on 30th June and not delivered on 1st July like I paid them to be.

    1. Stop ringing city link. You have no contract with them.
    2. Did you buy a money back service if service failed? Was it a guaranteed next day delivery?

Don't compare it to what City link offer their customers, you are not a customer of theirs in this scenario.

The reason for my money back guarantee from myparceldelivery is the following in their terms...
All delivery times and days shown on our site are estimates only and no guarantees are made unless the service you book is specified under 'Money Back Guarantee' services. Consignments may be delayed for reasons that are out of the control of both myParcelDelivery.com and the particular carrier. - See more at: http://www.myparceldelivery.com/hub/info/terms/#MPD10

Last Friday I booked a CityLink next day delivery service ...
    That was your mistake!

I used them a few years back and they were absolutely abysmal, and I've tried and avoid them ever since.
  • But it wasn't out of their control. It was a specific mistake by CityLink
  • Also, are you really trying to tell me that a company can legally advertise a specific service and then put opt out clauses in their ts and cs that mean they never have to provide that service despite charging for it? The service I paid for was quite clearly labelled "CityLink next day delivery" - surely there is some sort of legal accountability there?

You have no idea what caused it to go to a different delivery depot - unless you are a logistics specialist with full knowledge of all traffic and weather related challenges then you cannot possibly know - also note, your box doesn't necessarily go from you direct to the recipient, it might go to a hub 400 miles away for example.

You need to stop thinking like you bought from a courier firm. You didn't, you bought a from a comparison re-seller, this is why you got the service so cheap compared to going to city link direct.

You are not bound by the terms and conditions of City Link specifically, you are bound by the terms and conditions of the re-seller you purchased from and any section their terms refers you to in the carrier that carries your parcel.

They offer next day delivery subject to terms. If the service carries a money back guarantee then you get a refund. BUT and its a massive but in your situation - you bought from a reseller. It is up to the re-seller to provide you a resolution, within the terms you agreed to.
  • I do know what caused it to go to a different delivery depot - CityLink told me themselves that it was a mistake on their part.

I understand I am bound by the reseller's terms but my point still stands. If what I paid for was called "Pink Elephant's Next Day Delivery" I'd still be expecting next day delivery. My point is surely they cannot legally label a service as a specific thing (in this case next day delivery being the key term) and then use their ts and cs to provide a significantly lesser service except in extreme services.

It's like paying for 100mb broadband but only being given 56k dial up!

You spoke to an agent for a carrier you did not directly contract. Their answer isn't applicable to you as you are not their customer.

You need to check the terms and conditions and take it up with the reseller you purchased from. They will most likely offer you a credit for a future shipment, refund is unlikely, but again, it depends if they offer a money back guarantee on the service.

A well know reseller advertises next day delivery and has the statement that 98% is delivered next day, and 100% within two days - you need to check the detail of what they say.

As for your broadband comment, its usually 'up to'...
