Bttv or youview, broadband phone bundle

Options
Sorry if this is in the wrong place

Ok so I'm a current bt customer, In a rural location, so my options are fairly limited.
Currently have bt broadband unlimited, a bt phone line, but only freeview.
So I'm wondering if I can get a better deal. My bt ip phone line is now going to be charged £3.50 a month from February. I'm thinking of ditching that and going to the bt unlimited calls, which would make me approx £5-10 a month better off.
So questions, if upgrade to bt infinity, do you get bt tv for free. Or is that an additional charge?
Sorry if that's brief but it's really that simple. Can I get a better deal? Or get more for the same money.

  • Is your exchange covered by TalkTalk? if you are looking to save money they are a good option especially if you are considering YouView and have speeds over 5Mbps!

I have recently left BT and I'm in the process of leaving Sky, with Sky I was paying £45 per month for TV and BT £27 per month plus line rental annually. I am now with TalkTalk and pay £30.50 p/m (line rental annually) for the exact same setup :)

check whats available at your exchange on samknows or a broadband comparison site such as broadbandchoices.

TalkTalk support isn't the greatest, but if you can stay calm and realise how much is being saved per month dealing with their call centers become a little more bearable if you do ever have to call them.

Why, when a BT customer comes onto these forums and asks a question, does no one ever answer it? And always try to deflect them away from BT? Honestly...

    Hi JC,

And no, BT TV isn't free. There is a minimal charge for the box (around £35) and then the packages start from £5 a mth and move up from there. I pay £12.50 for TV Unlimited and then £20 for Sky Sports 1&2.

So even with an infinity upgrade for example, bt tv or youview are extra?

I think it's pretty clear the Op asking for a better deal will generally cause people to think of other providers rather than deals available from BT.

Regardless, BT are by no means the best or the cheapest and so I see no reason to recommend them on a money-saving site.

Fair enough, ME. But there are deals galore to be had with BT atm. And the OP was asking a specific BT TV question -

  • I was merely providing the user with another option as the title says BTtv or youview, as a user of Youview with another provider I was sharing information that could be useful to the user in their quest for a better TV service.

I could comment on BT's service, having recently left them myself and would also advise the user do similar if they aren't in a long term contract still.
Can I get a better deal?

Yes, the user could get a better deal from another provider!

    Exactly my first thought!
  • You are both correct. I could have worded it better, or even written it more grammatically correctly!
But all the answers are good.

So it looks like I terminate the broadband talk deal. Then if I stay with bt, which i suspect I will, ill upgrade phone to whatever all inclusive package is.
I'm not that sure whether a speed increase in broadband is of much use to me if, I don't use one of their tv services as a20mb connection is perfectly adequate.
Moreover I would like a pvr, but have seen freeview plus ones in asda for £90, so not really sure why I would pay 35for delivery etc. the only thing I would like is some hd channels, but maybe free sat would be a better option. Thoughts? ( and sorry if I've moved the goalposts a bit) I'm just pondering options!

I'm not sure Freesat would give you significantly more HD channels than Freeview. Since CH5 HD disappeared behind a pay wall all that you are guaranteed to get which you may not (yet) with Freeview is BBC4 HD and BBC News HD.
