Walk-in wardrobe or linen closet

Hi all,

We have finally exchanged on a house!

It's a 2 bed house masquerading as a 3 bed, and we're planning on taking down the partition between the two tiny bedrooms to make one decent sized master bedroom. The new room would be an L-shaped room, and my question is this: would you prefer/find more useful a walk-wardrobe at the end of the bedroom, or a separate storage cupboard, independent if the bedrooms? We don't particularly need the former and so the latter may be more sensible (and could possibly make the upstairs seem larger), but then the former might be more impressive to whoever buys the house when we sell).

Any opinions?

Make the house how you want it. Don't concern yourself too much with what people might want when you come to sell it.

You could spend £5k on a kitchen that you love which may not be to the taste of potential buyers...

I agree with Lee. All the time you undertake works to your home with a view to a future unknown and unpredictable sale, you will never be living in YOUR home.

There are pros and cons to both of you options and no doubt future purchasers will either like what you do or they won't. Those that like it may buy it, those that don't, won't.

Just do what is right for you, your lifestyle and your living conditions.

  • Agree, and take lots of photos of how it is now, as a future buyer may be interested in the current layout - sounds relatively easy to reistate
So many glitches, so little time...
  • I had this dilemma. We had the option of adding a wardrobe off the bedroom or a wardrobe/room off the landing. We already had 1 off the landing and went for another- it is lovely- feature radiator-underfloor heating but i do wish we had taken it off the bedroom not the landing.

Wont it fit an ensuite shower room in it? that would be the best. maybe make it off the bedroom now and you could make it an ensuite later on. We already had an ensuite but I would always put that before a wardrobe.

If your sole interest is maximising value, keep it as a bedroom.

Exactly this. 3 bed likely to be worth more. What are the current room dimensions?

Maybe they could partition another room to create a 4-bed and get even more value!

    Depends on the sizes...
  • I would go for en suite.
