mistake over booked holliday

Many years ago I made a not dissimilar mistake. We were flying back from Canada and supposed to arrive the day before I started a new job. (Not the most sensible decision ever, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. We had no concept of jet lag :eek:.) Unfortunately, I had not taken the time difference into account - and did not realise the situation until the actual day. I then had the embarrassment of phoning my new school to explain why I would not be joining the rest of the staff for the start of term :o:(.

I was very fortunate in the response but didn't live it down for years.

OP, no one on here is going to approve of or advise you to lie. You already know what to do.
