Natural Anti Flea treatments

Hi
My 2 x11 month pups are around other dogs and cats a lot. I never used to give my last dog any flea treatment and in 12 years she only got fleas once. Whenever she was groomed the groomer always used lemon spray on her which he said was a good deterrent.
My 2 are on Advocate but after reading of the serum melting plastic and leather I do not feel comfortable using it on my dogs so I am looking for anyone that uses natural products to keep their dogs flea free.
One extra problem atm is my daughters pup has Mange( from it's mum) so it looks like I will have to keep them on the medication till it's better. After that she wishes to go more natural too for her animals.
If anyone can recommend a good site for getting more info about natural ways of treating animals this would also be appreciated.

If natural flea treatments worked then everyone would be using them instead of the standard vet ones.
I wouldnt wish a flea infestation on anyone, once their in the carpets its hard to get rid of them and expensive. So good luck with that and being bitten to death.0 -
Washing up liquid kills them but the problem is they could be still in your house and you really need to spray it with flea spray.
Also you can use a flea comb to get rid of the ones on your dog.0 -
Mine don't have fleas.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

We pour about half a pint of warm water on a slice of lemon and lightly sponge down our cat's coat every evening. We have had him for 3 years now and have never seen any signs of fleas on him or in the house. He also used to get very itchy, flaky skin on his back end by his tail that made him very sensitive, this has also cleared up since giving him regular baths.
Our cat does not mix with other cats though as our garden is cat fenced but my husband used to sponge bath another of his cats who mixed with other cats and roamed and he also had no signs of fleas.
We can't say for certain that our method is what's keeping the fleas away but he used to get very upset when we tried to use flea treatment on him but he seems to like his baths.
Hope this helps.0 -

I wish there were really effective, natural treatments.
Annoyingly there is no ingredients list for the' barrier' product mentioned above. I bought something from Zooplus which I seem to remember was based on whey protein....apparently it coats the fleas and they die. the problem is that while a dog may sit and let you wet it with these sprays....a cat will be off like a shot!
You can buy Skoosh for the house, which is a spray containing silicone which is meant to be very effective. I do use it, but in a combination with Indorex!
There is also Vermex which is a dry treat supposed to repel worms as well as fleas.0 -
Diatomaceous earth. Wonderful stuff.
Too much to say here but have a google. Works as a wormer too and no nasty chemicals.0 -
Ps I've been using the above on both my cat and dog for around a year now they haven't had any chemical wormer or flea treatment. No worms and no fleas. My cat especially is reactive to chemicals.0

My vet says letting the dogs swim in the sea is good for deterring fleas because of the salt water on their skin and fur.0

I thought I would post this by someone that has 3 large dogs who has never used chemicals on them. I'm going to give this a try.
I used a combination of garlic and coconut oil in their feed and coconut and apple cider vingear in baths. I bathe my dogs every 3 weeks in the above and they have the garlic and coconut oil in there food 2 times a week in the winter and 3 times the rest of the year (but I put them in on different days to each other). Hope that helpsSelf Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
