Options
Bought a TV home for Christmas.
Our Antenna outlet on wall has female socket(needing male pin)
But back of TV too seems to need Male pin.
Aerial cable we got have female on one side and male pin on other side.
How to tackle this?

If you need in a rush nip to either maplins or B&Q and buy the connectors to suit

Take the cable with you and ask if you are not sure
    Have a nice day :)

You can get male to male cables, or they're easy enough to make up if you've got a bit of cable and the connectors (the decent quality tv cable is about 50-75p per meter, and about the same each for the connectors).

Homebase sell a suitable lead for about £4 (for some reason they call it a digital co-ax lead).

The cable you have is for connecting a VCR to a TV, male to male belling lee patch cords are widely available, pop down Tesco.

FYI we call them Aerials in the UK not Antennas.

When I was doing TV repairs, around half of the faults I attended to was caused by the cheap and nasty "clothes line" fly-lead. If it seems too cheap, there's a good reason. If you want good reliability without "pictures breaking up" it's always better to buy your own cable and plugs to DIY.

I use the words interchangeably, as did the OP.

You just need a standard tv aeriel connecting lead, sold in all of the larger supermarkets and electrical outlets.
They are the most common type of aerial lead sold. Just make sure you get one long enough to allow the tv to be moved for cleaning etc without having to disconnect the lead.
  • Seeing as this post is talking about aerials i thought i'd ask about mine. just noticed i've lost a couple of prongs that stick out on my roof aerial. Must have somehow blown off in the gails. Will it be ok or will it need replaced. Picture is still ok from what i can see but that's never been great due to other buildings being in the way. Aerial is only 3 years old..

Wouldn't worry about a couple of prongs, they are called directors, the more there are the higher the gain of your aerial and the narrower the beam. The thing on the back is the reflector and the flattened loop just in front is the dipole which is the bit that actually receives the signal.

  • Thanks penrhyn with a couple of directors missing will it degrade picture by much then?. I do have a booster box at the bottom.

Doubt it, mind you 3 years is a bit soon for bits to be falling off, do you have a lot of well fed pigeons round your way?
I'd be tempted to moan at the installer.
