Unopened gift scam back again.

Options
Nice to see the usual dodgy listings of 'unopened gifts' have started to appear on ebay.

The sellers make such claims as 'We usually spend £50 on each other' and other unbelievable tosh.

If I wished to sell an unwanted Christmas present, I would unwrap it so I could actually see what it was and list it correctly. These people make me laugh and you just know that in about 14 days, there will be lots of people moaning about receiving a load of tat neatly wrapped.

I just cannot believe how many stupid people there are on ebay. Still, as they say, a fool and their money are easily parted.

There seem to be fewer this year. Or perhaps it's still early on for this scam. I did a fair amount of searching, but couldn't find much. E.g.

From last year, I seem to remember seeing sellers with about 20 batches of unwanted gifts, all with a complicated sob story.

Edit: The seller above suggests that she sold unwanted presents in previous years, but going through her (presumably) feedback, it seems that last year's unwanted gifts were sold with a description of what they were. I can't see any signs of unopened presents after last Christmas.

Perhaps it is a bit too early for the scammers to start listing. Lets give them a day or two shall we?.

Forgot to add, surely the seller must have some idea of what is in each parcel otherwise how would they know whether or not the contents are on Royal Mail's prohibited items list.

  • How would you know they were unwanted till you opened them?

It can't be that they are off x so automatically unwanted....I could understand that.

She says "we usually spend about £50 on each other" so it is a mutual present giving relationship. And it seems to is a regular thing for her to do this. It seems very odd to me.

How would you feel about seeing your gifts for sale on Ebay unopened?

Maybe they've got an odd sense of honesty, and they've given each other a load of nicely wrapped pound shop tat for immediate listing on ebay. In which case, everything they say would be true.

Its a bit like the Oxford Street auction scam shops from twenty years ago.......after revving the crowd up by flogging videos for a fiver and tellys for a tenner, it went onto "who will give m £20 for what Im now thinking of" and 100 hands would go up. Of course it was tat.....

I like the bit that says "join in the fun with me" (so long as you pay me money and take a chance that it will be worth having at that price).

One person has two unopened presents..the first auction states she's a size 12, the second states she's a size 14.
Seems like she knows what's in both to state different sizes, unless she had too many chocs between submitting the auctions.
