Using American XBox One in Britain

I bought an XBox One for my son from the USA, and not surprisingly it has arrived with an American plug. Is it OK to
- either use a converter plug on this lead?
- or to use the lead from his UK XBox 360?

I ask in part because I have a feeling that American devices work on a different voltage?

Are there likely to be any other compatibility issues with using an American XBox One in Britain that I didn't anticipate (but perhaps should have)?

Thanks

  • We bought an American Wii back from the USA as we couldn't get certain games for our UK one at home. All we do is swap over the mains lead when we want play the US games. We haven't had a problem so far (touch wood) and we have had it 2 or 3 years now.
However, that is what we have found with the Wii. I accept no responsibility if it doesn't work on your Xbox! You may find it safer to use a converter plug.

Does the One have an external brick PSU or just a cable into the box?

It has something resembling a black brick that it plugs into. (The mains cable doesn't plug directly into the XBox.)

There is not only the power lead to worry about. The Regional format of games and the television format need to be taken into consideration.

    So an external PSU
A UK spec one will likely be the easiest long term solution
not likely to be cheap on a new console though!

    Thanks for the response.

IIUYC, you're saying that the USA one won't work here in Britain?

    it will
you will need to to get an inverter if you want to plug it in
My way with the replacement PSU meant it would just plug into the unit and no issue.
I dont know the One well enough to give specific answers Im afraid

    Thanks.

What would likely happen if one were to replace the USA cable with a UK XBox 360 cable? Simply not work? ... or actually cause damage to the unit and/or the PSU?
  • Apparently the games are region free, so you wouldnt have to worry about that.

There was a huge discussion on HotUkDeals a few weeks ago regarding power converters you can buy from Amazon. Well worth a read.
