Mmm. Has his widow checked her CRA records? Could his widow be mistaken and that was just a line that he was feeding her?
Personally I do not believe he was in any debt at all, however shes claiming hes left a lot of debt behind him.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Is this an inheritance matter? This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

I think it fair you ask her to prove this debt then you can decide if you feel obligated in any way to help out or is it a question of he left x but owed y so there is only z left?"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0

Is this an inheritance matter?
No its just curiosity. Im just not comfortable with the fact she is claiming that he has left a lot of debt behind when he passed away and theirs no evidence to suggest there was any.
My father passed away intestate and he did not leave any money he only lived from his pensions. However in islam they still pay the debts as a debt is a burden on their soul.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
In that case I would ask her for some proof, maybe offer to help out notifying and sorting out paperwork the you can see for yourself?"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0

If you have a legal right to act on your late father's behalf I think you can ask us to register your father's two names as aliases of each other. But if you've already obtained reports covering both names perhaps it's not necessary. Some debts aren't registered with credit reference agencies of course, such as council tax. But if there are outstanding debts you would expect to see some evidence such as recent statements or demands.
