Change of name by deed poll

Hi just a quick question,

If you was to change your name by deed poll. Would the organisation who administers the change or when your passport or driving licence was updated would they automatically notify the credit reference agencies of the change or is it reliant on person to notify them themselves.

There is no organisation to administer the change! You do everything yourself unless you employ someone (eg Solicitor) to do it.

Ok thanks that's good to know. So if a solicitor was employed to make the change would or do they have an obligation to notify anyone such as credit reference agencies.

No. You should ask them for enough certified copies of the change notification for you to distribute as required.

And don't think it's a way to run away from your debts. There are enough things that you NEED to change that one of them will give your creditors a link between your old and new name.

Luckily for myself I don't have any debts other than the fact I owe my friend £2.00 if that counts 😃

I'd pay the £2 if I were you-changing your name to avoid such a piffling amount seems a little extreme.:p

I just thought it strange that you were worrying about CRAs being informed.

The circumstances are my father passed away in March this year his widow claims he was up to his eyes balls in debt.

In 2007 my father changed his name as he converted to islam, I have checked with Experian and there is no credit recorded for him in either name at his address which he was a resident for 20 odd years.

Unless the accounts was opened prior to them being actually reported to credit reference agencies. Ive also checked with the registry trust under both names and nothing is recorded either

The only information shown on Experian was electoral entries and a telephone account from 2008. Also when the search was done their was no link to say name B used to be name A either.

Mmm. Has his widow checked her CRA records? Could his widow be mistaken and that was just a line that he was feeding her?
