Okay thats great that you have been able to get a refund for your issue however what if they get snarky on me where do i stand legally do you know? and dont worry I will be very calm as I work in Customer Services at a call center so I will be cool calm and collected when I speak with Customer Services in Store! however thank you for your advice!
It's a well known "side effect" with barcode scanners. It's like getting duplicated cchhaarraacctteerrss on a keyboard.
Legally, it could be a tricky situation. How do you prove a negative? But how do they prove that you really did buy two?
PS. Of course, as in both our cases, it only happens when you don't check the receipt in store. There is a theory which suggests that it's the act of not checking that creates the duplicate entry. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

The customer is taken on trust, however for the double scan to count, the items must be consecutive - they will not accept this if the items are apart!0

The items were consecutive, so hopefully it will end in a good outcome. I will update my post after I have visited customer services at the ASDA store. Thank you for all your wonderful help. Have a merry xmas and happy new year to all of you!0

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have just been to the ASDA store in question and got my money back!! Phew!! Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me again! Take care and enjoy boxing day!0

And you - hopefully it will have the positive outcome I expect, and next time watch out for it, it can happen on a 18p tin of peas just as easily as a bottle of booze.
One of the reasons I like their self-scan!0 -
It only takes a minute or two to stop and review your receipt before leaving the store. Had you done this then you could have had the refund sorted immediately - however now you need to return and get it back. A refund may or may not happen - depends how you approach it really.
Go in all guns blazing and your going to meet resistance, be a pleasant customer to deal with and your more likely to have a better experience and a refund.0 -
Read post #15One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
