Recently, we have had a DPD depot appear in our area. That is, a large 30,000 sqft facility has appeared only a few minutes away from us. When I say area, it is 1 mile (by road) from our house.

Yesterday, I decided to order a gift card from amazon (which comes with free next-day delivery). This was a bit surprisingly sent by DPD next-day service. I cannot fail the customer service of Amazon, which is 99% of the time excellent.

Unfortunately, despite all the technology of DYNAMIC Parcel Delivery I have been informed by online tracking that "your parcel could not be delivered, as your DPD driver could not find your address"

Now I do wonder how true this is... tracking has shown all day that its not even left the facility... but oh dear, DPD, where do we go from here?

I am not going to say what our address is, but there is no other road with this name in the entire UK. It's unique. I guess I shall have to drive and collect the item, or perhaps i'll WALK there instead... ! :(

Doesn't surprise me. Today I've had to chase a parcel that was supposedly delivered.

It was, to the same number house but totally different road. How he made that 'mistake' is anybody's guess, it wasn't as if you could mistake the road names as they are totally different.

So OP, you waited till the 23rd to buy a gift card and then is surprised when it's not delivered the next day !

Give companies and delivery drivers some credit at least. The most busiest time of the year practically, for retailers all over the country, no matter how close you are to the "fulfillment centre" you are going to be disappointed at least once in your life. It really isn't a big deal, is it?

What time did you finish work today? Ask a few delivery drivers what time they finished and you maybe surprised.

No, i'm not a delivery driver.

I ordered from Amazon a printer in the afternoon last Sunday, it was delivered at 08.45am the next morning, if that is not service then i don't know what is. Think what goes on behind the scenes, the pressure the drivers are under to get the parcels to a hub on time, a breakdown of a truck, it does happen.

Think of all the millions of packages that are delivered without a quibble, no one hear's about them, except the odd one or two out of hundreds of thousands then everyone is to blame except people who don't plan in advance !

    Just a thought.

What I'm amazed by was that you didn't go for an email or downloadable gift card. I mean - who orders a PHYSICAL gift card on 23rd December and expects it on Xmas Eve?

Actually, thats exactly what I did, order an email gift card... but thats not the point is it?

I didn't really expect it to be delivered. At least they could be honest and say... sorry... we ran out of time. Not use the excuse, we couldn't find your address... when its just around the corner?

Amazon logistics are amazing, without a doubt. And its because they have been doing it for so long. I did all my shopping weeks ago (on amazon!) and I guess this shows why you should NEVER leave things until the last minute.

Ah, i get it now, an e mail didn't know you're address !! (I've heard 'em all now !)

Can i ask you a question? I'll ask anyway, that stuff you're drinking or perhaps even smoking, what is it? Because it appears to be bloody good !!

I ordered an email gift certificate this evening - instant delivery. You don't think i'd be stupid enough to leave important items until the last minute?

I appreciate its a busy time of the year, but I don't think thats a very good excuse. Employing extra temporary staff and all that.

    You said;

Actually, thats exactly what I did, order an email gift card... but thats not the point is it?

But in your OP you said:

Yesterday, I decided to order a gift card from amazon (which comes with free next-day delivery). This was a bit surprisingly sent by DPD next-day service.

Do e mails come with next day delivery? Don't think so !

OP you have contradicted your self and ridiculed a company. I hope they sue you, merry christmas ha ha.

What? I ordered a gift card by post... can't be delivered because DPD didn't have enough staff, claimed they can't find address, despite being 2 mins down the road in the same postcode!

So, I go order an email gift code at 8pm this evening - instant delivery by email.

Bad times. Im sure someone made some money along the way...

    THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT!

Why order a physical gift card on the 23rd and EXPECT it to arrive next day? You should have just ordered the email gift certificate in the first place.
