It may have escaped your attention that I am seeking to interpret the policy wording in a way that provides the OP with full indemnity up to the policy limits. If you have a better suggestion please go ahead.
My ACII is long behind me but i am perfectly comfortable with my understanding of indemnity - by all means please set out yours for the OP's benefit.
I don't think we need add much more just now as between us all I think the case has been given a good firm push in the right direction (towards a true indemnity with or without the policy limits) which I believe should be enough to see Neil settling direct with AXA rather than struggling too much longer round the various houses.
We never quite got the full story so nothing much to add just now, I think? From the late great Tommy Cooper: "He said 'I'm going to chop off the bottom of one of your trouser legs and put it in a library.' I thought 'That's a turn-up for the books.' "0 -
On the way home I got a phone call from AXA. It was my AXA case handler, as i was on the way home it was a short conversation.
It appears that "the management" want to pay me the "balance" of the case. It was not convenient to talk and will ring back next week with more details.
I have never felt that I was at the center of the claim. They appear to want to pay me as little money they can get away with.
I have had a terrible time with this claim and am still waiting for AXA to say sorry.0 -

Although Axa are not the greatest, that approach to paying claims isn't theirs alone by a long chalk!
(Just as most policyholders want to pay as little as possible for their premiums).
The best you can hope for from an insurer is that they honour the policy!0 -
Neil....... I think you've made great progress by way of the fact that AXA's senior management have taken an interest. It seems clear that your position will be improved.....hopefully, very significantly. The 'balance of the case' could mean anything really because, as I've said before, the forum is only party to your version of events and does not have the benefit of knowing the full reasons for Crawford/AXA's original settlement offer.
If I were you I would adopt a diplomatic silence until AXA have laid out the terms of their new offer. The handlers who are reviewing the files at the moment are very probably not the people who have created this situation. Cut them some slack until they've made their offer, given their reasons etc. They have turned this round very quickly given the complexity of the case.
I hope you are pleasantly surprised when they speak with you again and, like others, I'd be very interested to hear the outcome of the case.
Fingers crossed for you.0 -

The management of AXA aren't usually concerned by the many adverse comments their company gets on the web - not only in the MSE forums but across the net in general!0 -

Hi Neil........just wondered if you have an outcome yet? Lots of posters are interested in your case ?

I have the same policy as the OP, I'd based the rebuilding cost of the house on the price of our new extension against the total square feet/metres and came to £143000. However, have been meaning to do it for ages, and ran it by this site http://abi.bcis.co.uk/ which reckoned I should insure for £100,000 more - eek!
I was reckoning on this being approx. £150 extra per annum.
From today until renewal in November - I paid a big fat £3.74!! (would have been £10ish annual + £25 brokerage - but as I work for the broker avoided the fee and got a bit of discount)
It's on EDI so can only guess the sums insured are banded, so anything up to £1/4m was minimal.
I appreciate it still has the 10% removal of debris limit, but I feel a lot happier and safer for having increased the sum insured, especially with all the landslips in the area due to underground streams.
Just want to say a big thank you to the OP for making me reassess my sums insured, and to advise all others - it may not be as pricey as you think!0
