Someone opening letterbox?

Hi all, don't know if I'm being paranoid or whether this warrants calling 101.
For past three days now, at around this time, someone has opened our letterbox. I don't know if they are looking through it, as all I hear is the letterbox snapping shut. I've checked for leaflets, it is after the postman has been, no letters, nothing. I'm getting a bit paranoid that it's someone checking whether we're in to burgle us, and we are away tomorrow which makes me even more anxious. Today I went straight to the front door, looked around and couldn't hear anyone/see anyone apart from hear a car engine.
Am I being silly? Will 101 give a damn?

Im not sure theres anything they could do to be honest, particularly at this time of year, resources will be stretched, all I can say is that if you dont have a burglar alarm get one and perhaps think about getting CCTV installed, a camera at your front door if your area doesnt have CCTV.0

I know, not really going to help for tomorrow though0

It's particularly windy right now - and from unusual angles.... could just be a usually hidden draught and you're only noticing it now.....
There's nothing we can say that'll ease your mind really.0 -
I wouldve said wind but its not bad here and our letterbox is very heavy0

No, but you cant plan for everything can you? I have internal CCTV in my block of flats, didnt always have though, I dont have a burglar alarm though, but have a front door with a strong yale lock, I live in a pretty rough area, but Ive never touch wood had anyone try to burgle me in the time Ive been here, you cant spend your entire life at home just incase someone tries to, all you can do is make your home as safe as you can
Police wouldnt be able to do anything if you dont have any visible evidence to give them, such as a car registration number, unless theres CCTV where you are and you ask that it can be checked. But given that its Christmas and resources will be stretched I think that would take time as well.
It could be someone looking for a relative or a neighbour and who has the wrong house.0 -
Have you a neighbour you could tell?I am the Cat who walks alone0

stuff a duster in the slot after the postie's been then they can't look through. check your flap to see if there's a sticker on it. apprently some places have a locksmith's clear sticker on their flap the number is fictitious but the company exists (and have nothing to do with this).
could the wind be flapping the letterbox flap - ours does if the wind is int he right direction (drives our dog mental).just in case you need to know:

I have experienced this but discovered the letter box was sticking open when the post was put through only to snap shut sometimes hours after.Slimming World at target0

A few years ago, one of my neighbours little girls (aged about 3) would run up to my door and open the letterbox and peek in - my front door opened directly into my lounge so I was sitting there when it opened and little eyes peered in! closely followed by mum running up the path to shoo her away!
Happened a handful of times, around the same time presumably when they were coming back from nursery I am guessing.
So might be something as simple as this :-)
for the meantime make sure there is nothing valuable within reach of the letterbox - an ex-boss of mine kept his car keys on the hallwaytable, they opened the letterbox and reached in with some sort of long wire and hooked the keys off the table and then pinched his car.0
