"3" unlock your phone for free

I've no idea what restrictions there are on this but I've a couple of old "3" phones (each probably 3 or 4 years old) and I've had them unlocked for free by "3".

The form is at http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Device_Unlock

and you need your IEMI number (Type *#06# on the phone keypad to get your IMEI number).

They need your details to check they think it is your phone but the unlock code comes by text with a link to a site to tell you how to use it.

Last time I looked into this they wanted about £15 and a call to the dreadful Indian call centre so I gave up !

I'm not changing the SIM as "3" is still the best deal for me in these phones but it could be useful on holiday.

Hope this helps someone.

It's IMEI... And if outside the contract period, the code is usually provided at no cost. O2 and Voda also do not charge.
  • Thanks Buzby - typing is not my forte and the spell checker doesn't catch IMEI !

The phones were both PAYG, I was surprised and pleased to get them unlocked without charge and I thought it might be useful to others.

Possibly a sticky for unlocking via networks (rather than phone model specific) would be useful with the rules for each network, when, charges etc.

I've requested an unlock code from them; how long for the text to come?

A couple of days, perhaps three.

Unlocking code received and my Nokia 3120 is now unlocked
I had to enter the code: #pw+<CODE>+1#

Note: only the <CODE> part (15 digits) was supplied by 3

    Merry Xmas
