I usually stay at travelodge so that may not be a problem. :)

I was looking at the 3V cards, initially to get them in Tesco to get the bonus clubcard points on offer at the moment and then came across this thread.

As far as I can tell, you won't be able to use them for hotel bookings because the purchase amount has to be less than or equal to the value of the purchase and if you're paying the fee to merge cards it's going to wipe out your saving.

I'm assuming like Tesco that Morrison's sell them as £25 gift cards?
Yes Morrisons only sell them in £25 increments but you can merge as many cards into one as you like (once you've activated them on the 3V site) but be aware they will charge you £1.75 for each "merger"
IE: purchase 8X£25 3V cards = £200 then merge all 8 into one means you'll pay:

    7x£1.75 merger fee = £12.25 in fees so you'll only realise £187.75

I used them last week to pay into my Elec/Gas bill as I found EDF will allow you to pay in each one at £25 a go (via the online account system) and I used 16 of them to pay off a £400 winter bill which means no fee from 3V. I tried one of them with the council tax first but they won't take them so they seem to be limited as to what you can use them for, however I have heard of someone using them to buy gift vouchers for other stores that Morrisons haven't got the gift vouchers for but it seems very hard to get around the £1.75 merge fee as you may be left with small amounts you will HAVE to merge into one hence the fee

Okay, I took the plunge on this offer yesterday.

I bought a basket of gift cards that I know I will use over the coming months. (B&Q, M&S, Halfords). I also got some 3V cards, too, though I can see the restrictions making them tedious to use.

In all £225 in cards/vouchers giving 22p/litre discount - note that Morrisons round down to the nearest £10.

I bought 58 litres of diesel at £1.109/l - £65 instead of £77. I also picked up a Morrisons Miles card to collect the vouchers against the fuel I paid for.

Worth doing, but I cannot see it being possible to get more than 5p-10p per litre per month on average unless you are already a bit of a profligate spender.
You have some very valid points in your posting to this thread Cornucopia. Although Morrisons only sell them in £25 increments you can merge as many cards into one as you like (once you've activated them on the 3V site) but be aware they will charge you £1.75 for each "merger"

I agree that the 3V cards are probably the key to getting the scheme to a worthwhile level.

In my case, I can use them to pay off my nPower account with no fee. I can probably even over-pay to "clean" the cards back to cash.

I suppose one of us should crank the numbers to see what the effect of merging the 3V cards is. At the moment, I'm thinking that c.5% fee for merging makes that route unviable, since the basic value of the scheme is only about 6% anyway.

The way my nPower online payment works, it can be used to mop up dribs and drabs on 3V cards, anyway.

I've also bought Morrisons "money off next shop" coupons on eBay successfully (I never seem to get them myself). I paid £2 for £12 worth of coupons. Each one will enable me to buy £40 of gift cards for £37 (£37.50 including eBay costs). So that's an additional 6% to add to the mix.

I pay my Gas, Electric & Council Tax using 3V cards purchased from Morrisons. £200 a month = 20p off every litre. I even got myself some 20L jerry cans to make sure I got 100L each time!

ooo, your so fortunate that your council will take them on the council tax because mine wont, but Ce`la Vie as they say but like you when I have enough to validate a 100L spend I have a few 20L Jerry Cans which I fill once the tank on passat is full

Hmm, good idea, I think I'll try hunting down some gift vouchers on eBay using 3V cards - perhaps sell them on and make a profit but turn them back into cash via my PayPal account

So... I wonder if you can use the 3V cards to buy Morrisons gift cards, and then use them to buy more 3V cards?
