Hello
Thinking about switching to Tesco broadband but I notice they can slow you down using BitTorrents. Is streaming BitTorrent usage?
Thanks.

"Torrents" are a form of streaming.
If you are planning to make data available for sharing, then yes, some suppliers may slow you down - depending on the amount you are sharing.
What is it that you're wanting to stream?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Streaming is just listening to, or watching, something from somewhere else (usually the net) rather than having the file on your computer first.
iPlayer, YouTube are examples of legitimate streaming, and nothing to do with BitTorrent.
BitTorrent is a way of 'de-localising' files, so that people can share them out effectively, instead of downloading from just one source. When you go to download a file (NOT stream) you will be taking 'bits' of it from lots of different people that have already downloaded it. BitTorrent is a way of file sharing, and can be used for legitimate or illegal reasons.
Some ISPs will tell you they will throttle file sharing or Bit Torrent. They should certainly not be throttling streaming, though all the above does cause much more traffic than general browsing.0 -

They use Cable & Wireless LLU to provide their super cheap packages, if you aren't in a Cable & Wireless exchange then you can't get Tesco Broadband like myself. I can get super cheap broadband from Primus or another TalkTalk reseller though.0
