Caveat emptor, buyer beware. This phrase was around long before the Romans popularised it, and it's as relevant today as it was a thousand years ago. Of course the dealer is a bit peed off, but surely that's a daily hazard for car dealers, and therefore they should be (a) knowledgeable, and (b) vigillant. He screwed up, basically, so, tough, be more careful next time, just like we buyers have to be. Good luck.

hi, i have just part exchanged my car for a van, i have the registration doc of the van and the dealer has signed it over to me, HOWEVER! he has now rung me because my old car has developed a fault(leaky rad, water pump gone) and is now demanding i pay £300 towards repair of my old car, he says if i dont pay it he will drop my car back and take the van away! he says he can undo the deal? is this possible

No it isn't. You should see some of the old wrecks some dealerships take in P/X. Basically they'll take anything as long as it has an MOT and manages to drive onto the forecourt under it's own steam.

The dealer got stung and is now !!!!!ing about it. Tough.

Next time he rings you, tell him you're not paying the £300 and if he thinks he's entitled to it, he can take it to Small Claims Court. Remind him that if he takes the van, he is actually stealing it and you will inform the Police. He's been paid for it and it is no longer his.

I wonder if the dealer does this all the time......i.e. buyer gets a fab part ex price which make steh deal look really good, then dealer calls him back and trys it on. No doubt some would feel honour bound / thretened enough to pay.............
