    Hi all.

My wife has an account with Equifax where she gets Credit Account Alerts if her Credit File changes.

She had an alert yesterday and we've just checked it out and it says there's a new credit card account and the companies name is CCEV0015. We have got a new copy of her credit file and there's nothing on there but also, nothing comes up when googling 'CCEV0015'.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what this could be?

    Thanks
Yet another thread that confirms that CRAs are not fit for any purpose that protects us. I also have Equifax Alert service (as luck would have it I get it free with an old card account). I constantly get these alerts which are worse than Peter crying Wolf. Then two months ago when fraudsters did actually successfully open a new account in my name and max it out, Equifax claim they were never told by the bank (a major one where I have other accounts with the same bank already noted on Equifax).

The account was opened with a wholly incorrect date of birth. The bank did not notice, and clearly they input all the false deatils onto the other two CRAs databases, Experian and CallCredit("Noddle" to many MSEers), and the CRAs didn't notice or report the inconsistent data error either. They just accepted the data as genuine and are still reporting it as such two months after the fraud occurred.

I contacted the bank over two weeks ago when they had sent me an over credit limit charge notice I didn't recognise. It then dawned on them what a cockup had been made. They said they would register my name and address on CIFAS for added protection so no further accounts could be opened easily. I still have no CIFAS registration, and Experian and CallCredit still have the maxed out fraudulent account noted as mine on my file despite me having a ding dong with Experian Company Representative on this forum about them getting their finger out and cleaning up their entire database of dob mismatches.

They are all a complete shower and could not be trusted even to give a dog a bath let alone safeguard our personal data.

Eh? what are you on about it's more likely that the company behind the Argos store card has started reporting to Equifax, thus it's a new credit account on the Equifax system which would trigger an alert.
  • Triggering a false alert is called "Crying Wolf", dotdash79. It has been so since the dawn of time.

It is known in this world as "a bad thing", because when a real alert is needed, like as not it will be missed or ignored as "oh another one of those pesky irrelevant alerts from that pesky irrelevant CRA whose subscription has been a total waste of money other than to be made aware of the cockups they can make of my personal data".

If you read the first message then it will say they had an alert and a new account appeared on the Equifax credit report.

That's not crying wolf, that's being correct.

    Have it your way dotdash79.

But it wasn't new at all was it? It was a batch update of heaps of accounts, many of which were ancient.

I would suggest that dissembling from the truth is not a virtue.

It was the first time that account had appeared on the Equifax system as it's the first time Argos had reported it to them.

That's why it was flagged as new.

Today is New Year's Day. It is the first Day of the New Year. Today is a good day to wish people a Happy New Year! Goodness me, it may even be a good day to wish complete strangers a Happy New Year! (Happy New Year dotdash79!). It is apt, and it is appropriate, and you can safely take a hint from me today and even wish people in your circle Happy New Year too! They will smile, and they will appreciate it. It is a New Year. Brand new. No doubt.

Now, let us consider for a moment if one in your circle then has an unfortunate New Year's accident when they trip over a champagne bottle and fall into a coma for 6 months. They recover but when they awake from their coma they have no sense of the time that has passed.

They are the affable sort so the first thing they say when they wake is "Happy New Year!" It isn't of course ("a New Year") but it is for them. The nurse smiles, but when she leaves the room she doesn't start wishing people a Happy New Year! Or she might for a laugh and then immediately explain her joy!

The moral of the story? Well what do you think? Something like "Coma is a big problem, both for humans and businesses." ?

If you read the first post, the OP says they had the alert but NOTHING new shows on the credit file. I also got the impression that the argos store card had been on the credit file already.
  • I also have a new credit card on my Equifax with company name CCEV0015, but I don't have an Argos card?

    I suggest phoning Equifax up?
