My dh and I talked for awhile about getting another cat and got the new girl approx 10 days ago as my Xmas present. She loves sitting with my dh but runs off if I try to get a cuddle :( she not very loving and very needy.im here main care giver and struggling to get bond with her:(

She meows a heck of a lot for attention but when she gets it she is very much her own girl, won't have a cuddle of lick or anything, will cuddle up to dh though.

Cats don't need caregivers - they need servants.

10 days? 10 days is nothing. I have cats and it took a year for one of them to come round to me and to stop hiding, because he had been living in a shelter and was terrified

Seriously, chill out. Its a kitten, its been moved from one home to another, it might take time for it to settle, but I bet it doesnt hate you

Some cats dont do cuddles. A couple of my cats hate getting picked up, they still love me.

And one of my cats is needy, I assume due to him being in the shelter and the way hes reacted to it, always looking for attention, even 7 years on

Honestly, you have nothing to worry about.

cats can prefer one owner over another - my previous cat really didn't like men, my OH included. He wasn't overly fussed with my daughter either, but he would cuddle up to me.

Current kit will cuddle absolutely anyone.

Actually, thats a myth as far as Im concerned thats said a lot by people who dont like cats (Im not suggesting you dont, Ive just heard it said a lot)

My cats are independent, they can feed happily from food in a bowl, are low maintenance, but they love me, would never be without them.

Thats cats, I'm pretty sure all of our cats used to spend their time plotting to kill us, they all seemed to enjoy rubbing up to our leg and then attacking us when we went to stroke them.

i think its said tongue-in-cheek - cats are so independant and so do-what-they-like compared to dogs for example, that often I think I'm my cat's "staff" :rotfl:. All the people I hear saying stuff like that are cat-owners and lovers of cats too.

We always used to reckon that my Dad had better circulation in his legs than anyone else and that as a result his knee was the warmest. Whatever the explanation, if he was sitting down he would be first choice for all 3 of the cats we had when I was a kid - wasn't a problem when we had one on its own, but when we had 2, we'd often have one on his knee and the other one sitting somewhere else glaring at the one in possession. It may also be the fact that he had the longest legs so more space to spread out, or that he tended to get engrossed in a book and sit still. One thing I do know for sure with all our 3 - the best way to get the cat to choose somewhere else to sit was to pick it up and sit it on your own knee! As the saying goes "dogs have owners, cats have slaves" - she will choose where she wants!

It is by some people, Ive had a lot of people who hate cats say it to me, gets a bit wearing at times

Like I dont have dogs, never had a dog, all my life Ive had cats, but I sponsor dogs in shelters, sometimes people just like having a dig, I appreciate some people might say it tongue in cheek but for some reason Ive met a lot of people who dont have cats and who love going on about how cold and unfriendly cats are

Like how do you know if youve never had one?
