kitten is six months? hmm coming into sexual maturity then. could be that mum now thinks he should be out raising his own family? is he neutered? if not consider having it done as that might help.0

Have you spoken to the Vet since mum and son started having problems? 6 months is usually a guide that your Vet may change if you mention the problems you are having.
Hope you get it sorted and all can live happily together xSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

My advice only is that all animals should be neutered including cats and dogs.
Hope your mother's cat has been done now. Sure it has.
Have you actually READ anything the Op has posted? BTW why should all cats be neutered? Are you on a mission to rid the world of felines? Not all of us want "breeds".0 -
I really recommend the Feliway plug-in. We've got 9 cats and since the weather turned, they've all been inside, with lots of fights, plus one older female was a persistent piddler. I was despairing but bought a Feliway plug-in a month ago - since then very few fights, no piddling, and 4 of them are now cuddled upside down on the sofa. It really took me by surprise what a difference it's made - I ordered mine from Amazon."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I was gobsmacked at the cost of the Feliway in PAH - on Animed its much cheaper! might be worth checking out the direct pet medical suppliers.
btw - the kitts were born on my birthday - 9th June!0 -
This is the risk you run when keeping a multi cat household. Cats arent designed to be in groups and I'm sure she was a very good mother but her job as a mother is now done, she doesnt want one of her off spring hanging about!
If things dont improve I would consider a new home for him as she sounds like she should be an only cat. Perfectly understandable if you know cats and how they tick.
Good luck, lets hope once he is neutered they can at least tolerate each other.Ant. :cool:0 -

Would you say that if someone posted about two children not getting on  I understand what you are saying sometimes it might be the only way but the OP has only just started having problems - you try everything first and then some before you come to that conclusion.
You are right in that most multi cat households tolerate each other rather than best of friends. When I had three cats they would always be the odd spat (two of them were mother and daughter), they wouldn't hurt each other but the occasional telling off would happen, its bound to.
I had a fleiway and it worked for mine but I have read others say the opposite, if you can afford one then it is worth a try.0 -

totally disagree, cats need company as much as we do, they are perfectly able to live together, although I do agree with others about getting him choppedI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
We have two sister cats, now nearly fifteen years old, they have always lived together. On the whole they ignore each other and have carved up the territory between them (one has the hammock, one sleeps on the coffee table etc). They do fight occasionally for a few seconds.
Cats are not pack animals and on the whole do not like other cats being in the household and if this is a mother/son relationship, she is probably telling him to get out and find his own patch.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Six month is the optimal time to get a boy (or girl) cat neutered but they can be done any time from two months onwards. I got my boy cat neutered three weeks ago at just over five months as he was starting to get a bit stroppy with the other cats, plus he had massive nuts anyway so there was no chance of the vet not being able to find them, lol.
Since then he's calmed down quite a lot on the dominance, , they all still fight but it's just play fighting now rather than fangs and claws and hissing. All three of them are boy cats btw, all unrelated and most of the time they get on fine, they groom each other and sleep in a heap.
Go and get Wesley the chop, he's well old enough. Then his mum will stop feeling so threatened by an unneutered tom and life should get a bit calmer.Val.0
