    :) spoilsport!

You're right - I am! LOL! The problem is I do feel like a spoilsport... my children have been telling me for years that they really don't need stockings anymore but somehow I feel as if I'm failing in my motherly duties if I don't do them. I think it's an attempt on my part to recapture the magical joy and wonder of Christmas with young children. In my experience, it is one of the best parts of being a parent (or close friend/relative) of youngsters under 10.

This year money is a bit tight and my son convinced me that money spent on stockings for him and his brother and sister was really unnecessary (I've still bought them other presents though). I have no wish for any of my children to have children of their own until/unless they want them but I do wish we had some young children in our family/friend circle.

my housemate will phone/text me if I am 5 minutes late getting in from work. Ive often said to her unless its 10 o’clock and Im not back and not been in touch that there really is no need to check on me to which she replies ‘but I worry other wise’ – she is 2 months older than me!
Despite only a 2 month gap we were in different years at school – if we are talking about someone and I will ask how old they are she will reply ‘I think they are about your age’!

I dont think my mum or my gran would have dared chase my wee (big) brother around with a hairbrush, he has much less hair than me. Hes also five foot 10 which is practically gigantic in our world.

I dont half miss my wee gran, hairbrush and all, she died very suddenly 3 years ago, her funeral was 3 years ago today in fact.

My mum is a very young looking and fit 64 but every now and then she'll send me a text and I'll say to her, you are turning into your mum

My gran really was one of a kind.

I was once on a boat trip in lanzarote with a friend we were both 19.

All the kids got to have a turn steering it. We then got asked, so both had a go, presuming they'd moved onto the adults.

No they stopped after us! Clearly thought we were about 12! The thing was there was a small group of teenagers who looked about 16, who never got asked but we did!

I've been used a few times to have the bouncer remark I'm older than them!

As for being treated like a child my parents will always invite me for a mean if my DH is away but I like that. Now I'm pregnant my mum is always asking me how much protein etc I'm eating which drives me nuts so don't think ill mention I'm slightly anaemic and being prescribed iron tablets or I'll never hear the end of it!
  • You hear so much about parents treating children older than their age, it's really nice to hear it goes on the other way as well. I guess it can be annoying, but it's less likely to do any harm and comes from a good place.
